Hi,

I am not really using the Short URL function of sh404SEF. If I disable this, do I have to Purge all my URLS? I am just finding that the Titles and Meta's manager is filling up with what I would class as junk URLs and would like to clean it up.

Also, if I do Purge the URLs, will sh404SEF automatically rebuild the list, and if so will that wipe all my Meta data and Titles (cos I really don't want that).

Last but not least, I am currently running sh404SEF 4.4.8.2409 and wanted to confirm whether this is compatible with Joomla 3.4.1 as I am currently running 3.3.6 and want to upgrade.

Kin regards,

Tim

Hi

1 - shUrls are not related to SEF urls, purging URL has no effect on them
2 - The junk urls you see in the meta manager are likely to be 404 urls. The reason they're included in the display is that after you purge urls, you still might want to see any meta data you have, even before the new SEF are recreated
3 - When you purge, sh404SEF will NOT rebuild the list automatically. Rebuilding is done when users request pages on the frontend; All URLs displayed on a given page are retrievd by Joomla, which then passes them on to sh404SEF for SEF-ication.
Any meta data (and shurls, and any data sh404SEF can hold) is attached to the non-sef URL, which is why you can purge, or even customize a SEF URL and still keep the connection with meta data

4 - It's rather the opposite. "Officially", we only support the current version of Joomla! (see https://weeblr.com/dw). In practice, it's a bit different and we usually don't have issues with recent versions of Joomla!

As a side note, we will have another release probably late next week, mostly to adjust to changes in Joomla 3.4.1 handling of multilingual sites. If your site is ML, you might want to wait until that 4.4.9 is out.

Rgds
