 Hi

I got Gtranslate paid edition to have automatic translations in aabout 9 different languages + urls rewrite + indexing in 'foreign languages'.
But obviously there are some pb with sh404sef (ex : if you go back and forth between 2 languages then you get a missing page. the url doesn't write back).

Is sh404sef compatible with Gtranslate ?
Is there some specials setup I should do ?

Should I activate the Joomla languagefilter system ?

Thanks for your help.
Best

Hi

We use Google translate on this site, and have not had any issue. Of course, we only have content translated.

I am not familiar with what they do in terms of URL rewriting, so I can't comment on that. sh404SEF can and will only manage URLs that are created by Joomla, on the server. sh404SEF doesn't run on your client (in the browser) and so whatever GTranslate is doing to the URLs is purely internal to them.

I don't know what module/plugin you use on your site to enable GTranslate, it would help to know.

if you go back and forth between 2 languages then you get a missing page. the url doesn't write back
I don't really understand that, maybe links to real site would help.

here is the site : https://www.xxxx.com/droitdusport/

but right now as it was generating other errors of display, I deactivated the option of url rewriting is subdirectories in the GTranslate language switcher module.

I will let you know when I put it back so that you can have a look.

Thanks for the reply.

I turned it back on so you could have a look and maybe (hopefully) an idea.

Just don't try it with the one page, there are still some pbs that I try to solve with Gtranslate.

But you can you at this page for example :

https://www.xxxx.com/droitdusport/domaines-d-expertise-en-droit-du-sport/droit-d-image-et-sponsoring

Try it in French, try it in English, and try it back in French ==> you will get an error page because the url doesn't write back to original in french.

Is it a setting in sh404sef I should change ?
Is it coming from sh404sef rewriting urls ?
Or do you think it comes from Gtranslate ?

Thanks for having a look

Hi

1 - Don't know if you disabled it, but I had no error going from French to EN, and then back to French. The URL was the same after switching back
2 -
Is it coming from sh404sef rewriting urls ?
It comes entirely down to what links Gtranslate is creating, and how it operates.
sh404SEF is only doing one thing: it takes a non-sef URL (index.php?option)com_content&id=12...) and turns it into a SEF URL.
The non-sef URL is provided by Joomla or by Joomla extensions (such as GTranslate).
If they follow the Joomla API, and use JRoute::_() to transform their non-sef into SEF before displaying them, there should be no problem at all.

Try this to see if you canb reproduce the error of url rewriting :

Exemple, on home page select English, then go on an article (exemple, the last one of the Latest News - Fiba suspends Brezilian federation) and once on that page in English, Select back French ==> it gives me a 404 error page because the url rewriting only takes off the /en/ but doesn't rewrite back the url in its original language (and terms).

What could I do for that ?

Hi

Yes, I see now. No idea, you'll have to talk to GTranslate, I don't see how sh404SEF could be involved in that. Please note my #2 reply above: we only do convert non-sef to sef, on the server. They would have to usse the Joomla API (ie JRoute::_()) to build proper URLs.
