I am unable to figure out if my .htaccess needs to be modified and/or if my htaccess.txt file needs to be renamed. Please let me know if what and if anything needs to be done to these attached files, so that I can begin using sh404SEF. Thank you.

Hi
.htaccess is a server things, it's not related to sh404SEF and we cannot provide support for its modification. sh404SEF doesn't need any modification of the .htaccess file, it just follows what Joomla does.
If you want to use URL rewriting (ie not have /index.php/ in URLs) as can be enabled in Joomla configuration, you would then need to get a valid .htaccess for your server. This is a Joomla requirement, and the Joomla project has documented this process very well. Please follow their documentation page here.
If your server doesn't work with the standard Joomla .htaccess file, then in my experience it's best to talk to your hosting company: as they setup your server, they are in the best place to know what specific .htaccess settings are required.
