Hi

I assume that you mean you get 404 errors on non-home pages when you enable URL rewriting in Joomla configuration?

If so, this means you web server is not properly configured. If this is an Apache server, as is most often the case,it means you do not have a valid .htaccess file at the root of your site.

The first thing to do is disable sh404SEF. It is not involved in this, URL rewriting is purely handled by Joomla SEF and your web server.

Then you need to find what .htaccess file your web server needs to be able to perform URL rewriting.

Usually, simply renaming the htaccess.txt file provided by Joomla as a sample to .htaccess (with a . at the start) is enough, but again, as it all depends on your server setting, it may not work.

The best place to ask then is your hosting company. They are the ones who setup your server, and so they are really the only what specific configuration needs to be in your .htaccess file to perform URL rewriting.

If you haven't used it before, Joomla has a very detailed page on this topic. It covers multiple situations and multiple web servers.

I have purchased this extension to make my life easier. I do not think there is a problem with .httaccess becuase it is in my root folder.

the problem is my webpage links looks like this

http://xxxx.eu/index.php/why-choose-us/

but i want to remove index.php and make it look like this

http://xxxx.eu/why-choose-us/

is it possible through sh404sef?

I can give you my joomla login details and you can have a look at it yourself.

http://www.xxxx.eu/administrator

user: xxxx
password: xxxx

Thank you

Hi

That's NOT enough to have an .htaccess, it must be working for YOUR server.
Once again, this has nothing to do with sh404SEF, or even Joomla or any extension.

I have done this little experiment for you

1 - I disabled sh404SEF
2 - I set Joomla configuration to "Use URL rewriting"

--> you get the exact same error.

Once you have fixed the problem with Joomla, the URL rewriting will work fine with sh404SEF, it does not require anything else than what Joomla requires.

This problem is common, and is related to your server. You must find the correct syntax for your .htaccess, the syntax that suits your Apache server. Once again, my best advice is to talk to your hosting company, they will have the best advice regarding the content of your .htaccess file.

Hi again,

After my experiment, I have set "Use URL rewriting" to "No", in Joomla configuration, so that you do not have 404 errors. But I have left sh404SEF disabled.
