 Hi there,

I've generated some hundred title tags. Most of them are suddenly no longer visible. A few are still visible. I installed the k2 sh404sef plugin. It seems to work fine. But maybe this could have caused the missing title tags? I have to say that I'm using k2 for all of content writing. Menu items pint to k2 categories or mostly to k2 items.

To reproduce the issue here are some links but please login with this demo account first. The content is visible just for subscribers. The k2 item restriction is managed by the extension OS Membership. Maybe this could also influence the title tags?

Here's a page with a still working title tag:

http://www.xxxx.de/loesungen-abitur/mathematik-abitur-bayern-2016/pruefungsteil-a/geometrie-2/teilaufgabe-2b.html

And here's a page with a missing title tag which shows only the k2 item title:

http://www.xxxx.de/loesungen-abitur/mathematik-abitur-bayern-2016/pruefungsteil-a/geometrie-2/teilaufgabe-1a.html

Thanks for any assistance!

Christian

Hi

1 -
I've generated some hundred title tags.
Do you mean that you created them in sh404SEF?
2 - I would need superadmin credentials to your website. You can create a temporary account, and delete it afterwards, but it must have superuser level.
3 - If 1 is true, and if you search for loesungen-abitur/mathematik-abitur-bayern-2016/pruefungsteil-a/geometrie-2/teilaufgabe-1a.html in the URL manager, do you still see your custom title?

Hi!

1. Yes, all title tags were generated with sh404sef.

2. Your superadmin login is:

htaccess login:

user: xxxx
PW: xxxx

Backend login:

user: xxxx
PW: xxxx

3. No, I can't see my custom title.

Many thanks for your quick reply!

Hi

Indeed, looking at the records for /loesungen-abitur/mathematik-abitur-bayern-2016/pruefungsteil-a/geometrie-2/teilaufgabe-1a.html, for instance, I see no trace of any meta data entered for them. There are plenty of pages with custom titles, but this one is not one of them.

I don't see how the K2 plugins would have changed that. This is just data stored in the database, so it can't just go away. Have you done any restore operation recently (or not so recently)?

Hi,

I rember I did a restore operation with akeeba backup. Must be last week. I don't remember exactly. This was the first time I restored an akeeba backup by clicking the recommended restore button from akeeba manage buckups. Normally I have always done this manually by uploading the backup files via ftp and using kickstarter.

Hi

So my best guess is that the backup restored was from a date before you entered some of the titles. That's the only explanation I can think of for data to disappear like that.
What I would suggest is maybe try to look at all the backups you have available, set up a test site somewhere (maybe just on your local computer) and see what the various backups have in terms of page title and meta data.
Maybe you can actually get most of the data back, by using the right backup?

Hi

I can't think of this 'cause the tiles were created long time ago and my available backups are always just from the last five days.
I'll try as you suggested and have a look at all of my backups to hopefully find the titles. The problem is that I've done a plenty of content changes and written new content in the last few days. So that restoring an older backup would result in losing all the latest content.

But anyway, it happened and I have to look forward ... If I can't get the titles back and create new ones automatic or manuell this will not affect the urls in general, right? Only how the titles become visible in the browser and search engines displays.

A final question: Is it possible to get the k2 item titles and category titles displayed in reverse order.

Example:

http://www.xxxx.de/loesungen-abitur/mathematik-abitur-bayern-2016/pruefungsteil-b/analysis-2/teilaufgabe-1a.html

should look like

Teilaufgabe 1a Analysis 2 Prüfungsteil B Mathematik Abitur Bayern 2016

This is correct.

All K2 stuff: both URLs and meta data, is handled by K2 directly. They provide support for sh404SEF, by mean of a specific plugin. This plugin has setting, though I wouldn't know if what you ask is possible within their plugin. You will have to ask them. Please note that K2 will actually provide support for all K2+sh404SEF related matters.

Hi

I have the k2 sh404sef plugin installed but obviously haven't found the correct setup yet. Okay, will ask k2 support.

Thank you very much for your patient support!

Hi!

I've to come back to this ticked 'cause the problem with lost title tags happened again.

I created new title tags step by step and controlled them during the last few days. Yesterday about noon I finished working on the title tags with an akeeba backup. Today morning to my surprise I found most of the title tags lost again. This is really strange ...

So I restored the backup with the saved title tags in a new sub directory to have a comparison with the actual state of the site. When I finished creating title tags yesterday I was still working on the website but only with OS membership. And I remember I once purged the sef urls but I think this should not affect the title tags in any way.

You can find the restored site (with the created title tags) at:

http://xxxx.de/administrator/index.php

and the actual site (with the mostly lost title tags) here:

http://xxxx.de/administrator/index.php

Please try searching "2016" within “Title and Meta tags" and you'll see the difference.

The login I gave you with this ticket is still active. Hopefully you can figure out what happened?

Thanks a lot!

Hi

We should always discuss one single URL. Otherwise we just get lost. I have selected this URL:

loesungen-abitur/mathematik-abitur-bayern-2016.html

It's non-sef URL is:

index.php?option=com_k2&Itemid=4085&id=354&lang=de&task=category&view=itemlist

On the "live" site, this URL doesn't exist at all. Have you purged URLs in the meantime? or deleted some URLs?

If this is not a good example, what is a URL that has the problem?

Hi

For example this url

http://www.xxxx.de/loesungen-abitur/mathematik-abitur-bayern-2016/pruefungsteil-a/analysis-1/teilaufgabe-1b.html

had the title:

Teilaufgabe 1b Analysis 1 Prüfungsteil A Mathematik Abitur Bayern 2016

The restored backup in the sub directory "mathelike2016" shows the title correct:

http://www.xxxx.de/loesungen-abitur/mathematik-abitur-bayern-2016/pruefungsteil-a/analysis-1/teilaufgabe-1b.html

Thanks!

Hi

Thanks, I understand better now. If you look at this URL, loesungen-abitur/mathematik-abitur-bayern-2016/pruefungsteil-a/analysis-1/teilaufgabe-1b.html, on both sites, you will see why the titles are not displayed (there are still there, just not displayed)

On the "bad" site:, the non-sef URL for this link is:
index.php?option=com_k2&Itemid=109&id=1290&lang=de&view=item

On the "good" site, the non-sef is:
index.php?option=com_k2&Itemid=4181&id=1290&lang=de&view=item

The thing to know is that meta data is attached to the non-sef URLs (so that you don't loose them if you change some URLs settings). So in effect, you have attached some meta data to the URL with Itemid=4181. But this URL has now been removed somehow, or not yet been recreated, and the current Menu item used to display this page is Itemd=109

I have not been able to find menu item 4181 in your menu structure, you have too many, but maybe this is linked to some menu items being moved around a bit?

I purged the urls only yesterday after I finished creating title tags but not meanwhile since I found the title tags lost. And I haven't deleted any urls

Hi

Well, that URL is not there, so it was deleted somehow. And which menu item is #4181?

Rgds

Hi

#4181 is the menu item with the link index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&layout=item&id=1290. It's the menu item which assigned to the correct k2 item named „Teilaufgabe 1b".

Hi

I have conducted a small test, and manually added the URL :
SEF: loesungen-abitur/mathematik-abitur-bayern-2016/pruefungsteil-a/analysis-1/teilaufgabe-1b.html
non-sef: index.php?option=com_k2&Itemid=4181&id=1290&lang=de&view=item

Then made this non-sef the "main" one (on the live site). The custom meta data doesn't come back. This means not only the URL was deleted, but also the associated meta data.

At this stage, I have no more ideas. You are telling me that you have a backup with a specific piece of information (the SEF: loesungen-abitur/mathematik-abitur-bayern-2016/pruefungsteil-a/analysis-1/teilaufgabe-1b.html / non-sef: index.php?option=com_k2&Itemid=4181&id=1290&lang=de&view=item), a URL record in the URL manager and database.

And then this URL has disappeared from the database, without any action on your site, whether deleting or restoring again something else? there is no technical explanation for that (aside from your hosting company having issue with your MYSQL database and restoring an older version, but I have seen this only once in my 9 years of doing sh404SEF).

Hi

Yes, there's a backup (see attached) and the only thing I remember concerning urls was purging them. I'm going to make backups now every hour to see what happens in the future.

One thing I'd like to mention at least: Is it possible that the recently bought k2 filter and search module causes the trouble? I followed the developers instructions and did these recommended changes described under known issues/sh404sef compatibility:

http://joomcar.net/products/joomla/k2-filter-and-search-module#docs

Thanks!

Hi

They cannot make information stored in the sh404SEF database disapear, at least that's not what the code in their doc page does.

and the only thing I remember concerning urls was purging them
On a production site, there is no need and normally no reason to purge URLs. This may loose "main" URL selection you may have done in case of duplicate URLs. But again, this cannot explain meta data being removed from the database table. And if a URL is deleted through Purge, it should come back later on when Joomla needs it to be displayed on a page.
