Hello,
I've a question regarding sh404SEF and DocMan used together.
I've a Joomla 3.4.1 webside, and I've installed your component 2 weeks ago to increase my SEO. All is ok (very good software) only I've to understand why the rss feed links coming from DocMan component point to error page (Google Web Master Tools tells error 500).

Giving you an example: http://www.xxxx.com
if you click to any file link (not the description links that point to com_content) you can see the error page.

I attached a screenshot of Google Web Master Tools

I tryed to search on Google for solutions. Maybe you know if there are is any specific DocMan plugin to handle your component? Or do you know any other solutions to fix my issue?

Also can you tell me where sh404SEF write 404 url redirections (what I set in the backend), because if I want to change one or delete I don't know from where.
Thanks for your attention, and another time compliments for the good software, keep holding on with it.
Little tips: in the second attachment you can see a new graphic error in the backend after the last upgrade. Buttons are partially covered by the component wrapper. I use full-hd 1920x1080 screen on Mac.

Hi

Last thing first: regarding visual issue, when you say "last upgrade", did you mean version 4.4.8? or previous 4.4.6?

Now to your real question. When I click on one of those links, I can see the error (in small at the bottom):

"Invalid menu item"

Could you tell me what is the exact and full non-sef url (ie index.php?option=com_docman.....) that's associated with the sef url "/docman.html"?
Also, are there some Joomla! duplicates detected by sh404SEF for this url ? - you'll see a small orange badge on the same line, with a number in it

If so, what are the non-sef for those duplicates as well?

For the issuem I meant the 4.4.8 version, upgraded today in the morning. With the 4.4.6 I hadn't this "problem". With the 4.4.6 I had the bar with search filters coming on the content (urls, aliases) when I scrolled down the page. Same resolution, same browser, same OS.
Now for me a "20px margin top" on the div with class ".shl-main-content" fixes the problem on Firefox, latest version. Havent tryed on other browsers.

Coming back to my question:
"en/docman.html" is "index.php?option=com_docman&lang=en"
"it/docman.html" is "index.php?option=com_docman&lang=it"

Apparently any duplicates for those URLs, I've duplicates for docman's sub voices, for example
"en/modules/2-digi-showcase-j3-1-0-5.html" can be "index.php?option=com_docman&Itemid=401&alias=2-digi-showcase-j3-1-0-5&category_slug=modules&lang=en&layout=default&view=document" (default) or "index.php?option=com_docman&Itemid=401&alias=2-digi-showcase-j3-1-0-5&category_slug=modules&lang=en&layout=default&slug=digi-showcase-j3-1-0-5&view=document".
Thgis kind of duplicates I have for all files I've put in DocMan. But the main part of the component where users can download files runs correctly, leaving the default settings for the component in 404SEF control panel.

I read about "invalid menu item". Very strange...
If you need ANY additional data please ask me, I'm gonna send as soon as I can.

Greg

re CSS: the problem is not in 4.4.6 vs 4.4.8 but in Joomla 3.4.1. There was a change in the html, which causes 4.4.6 to display a bit like what you have. Then in 4.4.8, I changed the margin for that same div, and it works for me on various browsers and on all sites I have visited recently.

Back to Docman. At first I thought the missing "slug" variable ("&slug=digi-showcase-j3-1-0-5") may be an issue, but both urls seem to work.

Can we stick to a common example URL:

So I visit: http://www.xxxx.com/en/templates.html?format=rss

The first link on that page is:
http://www.xxxx.com/en/docman.html?alias=9-digi-work-company-j258-1-0-0-quickstart&category_slug=templates&format=html&layout=default&view=document

That gives an error (invalid menu item). So I tried to simply append "&Itemid=401" to it, and it starts working.
So it seems for some reason the Iitemid is not put in the non-sef URL when Docman builds the RSS feed.

So what we may want to do is make /en/docman.html and /it/docman.html" do have an Itemid in it.
If they have duplicates, and one of those duplicates have an Itemid, then use them as "main" url.

Otherwise, you will have to create as a new custom url, using /en/docman.html as the SEF url and index.php?option=com_docman&lang=en&Itemid=401 as the non-sef.
And same for the italian version.

Tell me how it goes.

A good question to ask to the docman team is why would the Itemid be missing from the rss feeds link

I know about changes in Joomla 3.4 backend, and about its collassable sidebar. Also my extensions's backend has to be modified.

I hadn't any duplicate for docman's voices. As you suggest, I've created the two new URLs and now it runs perfectly, thanks!

The last question (and then I promise I stop to ask) is if you can explain me where I can found the 404 errors that I have redirected in the back end of 404SEF. I mean, if I'm gonna do something wring with 404 redirection, where I can delete or modify one?
Should I enter in mysql manager?

Thanks. When I find 5 min of time I'm gonna leave 5 stars on JED about 404SEF and also about support.

Happy it's working now.

As for the 404s, if you redirected them, there are 2 options:

1. If you redirected to an existing SEF URL, then the old 404 has been turned into an alias of that URL, so you should find it under the Alias tab of the target URL, or in the Aliases manager

2. If you simply typed in a non-sef URL to associate with that 404, then it's not really a redirection happening. Instead, the SEF/non-sef pair is simply recorded as a custom url in the url manager.

Normally you would'nt want to delete such redirect, otherwise new requests for that URL would again become 404s?

Thanks for the info, now I0ve understood all.
Of course I don't want another time the url become a 404, but I ask because when and if I'm gonna redirect something wring, I wanted to know how to fix my errors. Just because in the begin I thought that 404SEF writes in .htaccess 301s redirect, but after a first looking I didn't see nothing there.
Perfect so I can control all the features directly from back end.

Ok, so thanks for explanations and help.
See you, have a nice day.

Greg

No, we don't write to .htaccess. First because it's way easier to manage things in the database.
And second because .htaccess is only for Apache web servers, and there are many others.
