HI there,
I'm seem unable to get the 404 error page to come up on the web site www.xxxx.it
I think that maybe the redirect manager component is loading first because it seems like the standard 404 page.
If i give you SU access could you take a look and check to see if we have it configured correctly?
Regards

Hi

The redirect manager has no effect when sh404SEF is enabled. Actually, this site doesn't look like it's running sh404SEF at all. Are SEO features enabled?

Anyway, we can have a look at the settings, please provide us with superadmin credentials to your website. You can create a temporary account, and delete it afterwards, but it must have superuser level.

Thanks and regards

There are both active but not all sh404SEF features are active.
For some reason not all the 404's are being caught by sh404. But Redirect is catching them but I want to use just sh404 and have a proper 404 page that looks nice.
Here is the SU account - before you change anything let me know what you want to do so I can understand better the issues and see the effect it has in realtime.

Hi

You must have some kind of protection on the admin:

[xxxx]

before you change anything let me know what you want to do so I can understand better the issues and see the effect it has in realtime.
I don't plan on changing anything. This kind of problem is not sh404SEF-related (99%) but instead is due to a system plugin or in most cases the template taking over where it should not. So the game is finding which extension on your site is causing this.

HI, its https://www.xxxx.it/administrator/ maybe you were using http?

Hi

1 - Yes, was using http, got access with https
2 - Confused: sh404SEF was disabled?
3 - after enabling it, I requested a non-existing page, and I could see the sh404SEF was trying to be displayed, but I got a white page. After enabling Joomla error reporting, I got the error message below:
<html xmlns:og="http://ogp.me/ns#" xmlns:fb="https://www.facebook.com/2008/fbml" lang="en-gb">

<head>
  <title><br />
<b>Notice</b>:  Undefined property: JDocumentHtml::$error in <b>/var/www/www.xxxx.it/app/public/templates/xxxx/error.php</b> on line <b>13</b><br />
<br />
<b>Fatal error</b>:  Call to a member function getCode() on a non-object in <b>/var/www/www.xxxx.it/app/public/templates/xxxx/error.php</b> on line <b>13</b><br />

I tried also to switch to protostar, but there is also an error with it, though a different one. One more strange thing is that I cannot access any of the sh404SEF popups, neither the configuration, nor modify a URL or others. Have you experienced this?

There is obviously something really wrong on your site here, but I can't find it out online. I would like to disable all system plugins to check, but that can't be done online. I will take an akeeba backup and install a copy on a local machine, to be able to step through the code, particularly to understand what's blocking sh404SEF configuration to open up. I can't do that ATM, as I am on a phone connection, but will try tomorrow again, at most friday.

thanks for spending time on this.
Can you explain why you say it was disabled?
Looks like there is an error in the error.php file.
I don't have any issues using the configuration.

Hi

Can you explain why you say it was disabled?
Because when I logged in , "Enabled URL optimization" was set to "No", meaning sh404SEF was entirely disabled.

Looks like there is an error in the error.php file.
That's a file in the template, not part of sh404SEF.

I don't have any issues using the configuration.
Trying again now.
Same thing: the background goes dark as it should but the popup doesn't pop up at all. Tried also with Firefox, but I get the same. Looks like a security thing to me but the weird thing is that there is no error message in the javascript console.

I'll see tomorrow if this happens also on another server. There is too much strange, previously unknown behavior here.

Ah ok so for sh404 to be running we always need to have the Enabled URL on, I didn't realise that. So unless its the 404's won't get intercepted?
Yes I realise the template isn't part of sh404 it was just a comment.
We had issues before with the configuration box which was because we were using the ISIS template that runs with Bootstrap 3 not 2 as the standard joomla version.
What I'll do is get the error.php running properly so we can remove that issue, then I'll run some tests with url optimization running on a staging server and then get back to you if things arent resolved.
Thanks

Hi

Ah ok so for sh404 to be running we always need to have the Enabled URL on,
As explained in the documentation, this setting is a general switch. If set to No, sh404SEF is entirely disabled. It's pretty much equivalent to uninstalling it. This is because nearly all features are URL based, including the 404 URLs similar feature for instance.

What I'll do is get the error.php running properly so we can remove that issue, then I'll run some tests with url optimization running on a staging server and then get back to you if things arent resolved.
Yep, better go on a staging server.

I'm leaving this ticket open for now. The system will close it automatically in 2 weeks if no further comment is made, feel free to open a new if that happens, just mention this ticket # in the new one.
