#2469 – Almost duplicated SEF urls

How can I remove URL id=365 for example (see second image)

The problem here is not one of duplicates. The problem is that what seems to be different products (product id 238, 239, 295, 365, 371) have the same URL!
How is this possible? have you entered the same alias or product name for multiple products?
If you look at Virtuermart producst with id 238 and 239 for instance:
- what are they? what's their name, title, alias?
- are they all published?

As explained above, the URL with the / is a category, the one without is a product.

WIth and without / are 2 entirely different URLs, and are not duplicates at all, so that's not a problem in itself.

This is not "some type of error". This is a 404 page by Virtuemart. Except it's not a real 404. It doesn't give a 404 error code, but instead does a redirect to another page, adding error=404 at the end of the URL. If you can find this feature in Virtuemart control panel, please disable it, it's a terrible thing to do from an SEO standpoint.

Now, this page does give a 404 because /estilos-de-cerveza-artesanal/stout/ is attached to the product page for product id=238, which, as you said has been removed/unpublished.

But ID 365 and ID 371 are new products and definitely different name, alias, title, etc

This is the real issue. I need to check on your parameters, both in sh404SEF and Virtuemart, to see why this is happening. Could you please provide us with superadmin credentials to your website. You can create a temporary account, and delete it afterwards, but it must have superuser level.

So I am a bit confused now. I started to search for
[xxxx]
and then for "id=371":
[xxxx]

So in short, I cannot find the "estilos-de-cerveza-artesanal/stout/" URL, and so I can't see its non-sef counterpart. Currently, all URLs for product id= 371 looks normal and are not confused with that category page. I did the same with product id=365, with same result.

I think we have to wait to have the problem again.

It is happenning, sometimes, when I add new products.

Have any of those products been unpublished before? or move around to/from other categories?
I have found that product id 233 () has duplicates, and is linked primarily from the Dunkel category, instead of its main "Amber Ale" category. Which should not cause this issue, but is weird nevertheless.

3 - Looking at the category 19, Amber Ale, I also noticed the following:

I have found these URLs:
estilos-de-cerveza-artesanal/amber-ale/results1-12
or
estilos-de-cerveza-artesanal/amber-ale/results1-24

However, the main category page is:
estilos-de-cerveza-artesanal/amber-ale/cerveceria-artesanal/

If I click on it, I go to the Amber Ale category. But if I try to visit:

estilos-de-cerveza-artesanal/amber-ale/cerveceria-artesanal/

I am redirected to estilos-de-cerveza-artesanal/amber-ale (without a trailing slash), and I also sees the same category.

So that's pretty strange. Does that ring any bell. Did you do anything at some point in time to that Amber Ale category (I can see you have 83 aliases to it)


To be honest, that screenshot is very puzzling, I have never seen anything like that. It's like VM router.php is building categories URLs for products. Right now, I don't see how this can be happening.

Please next time, don't delete them immediately. I would suggest that you take an Akeeba backup of the site before deleting them. I can then download that backup, install locally and investigate what's happening.

There was an error it was aliasing to another product, I deleted the product and created the new SEF URL

Wait, wait. What is this. What do you mean you "created the URL"?
You don't create URLs in sh404SEF, they are created automatically.

As for the redirect to home page, it's normal. You have an alias set to do that:
[xxxx]

There was a redirect from this URL to the product with id = 384 setup, but you deleted the product (I could not find it), so now the target URL is empty and goes to the homepage. Just delete the redirect.
