Hi

Nope, done it about 15 times in a row first with xxxx.com then with www.xxxx.com.

Always worked as expected.

What makes you think this would be related to sh404SEF anyway?

Hi I found the real issue.

It is with the /fr homepage.

Please copy paste : http://www.xxxx.com/fr

Or click on the FR language switcher. It goes to http://www.xxxx.com/instrument-electronics/divertimento-modifications-des-surfaces.
In english.

I think is sh404 because it is a URL redirection issue.

Please let me know if that akes more sense for you.

Many thanks

best,

pedro

Hi

I think is sh404 because it is a URL redirection issue.
Joomla and almost ALL extensions do plenty of redirections. sh404SEF actually do few redirections. It does URLs instead.

That said, going to http://www.xxxx.com/fr does redirect to that URL 100% times, so the most likely reasons are:

- you may have an alias from fr to /instrument-electronics/divertimento-modifications-des-surfaces
- the menu item specified as "Home" for the french language is not the right one?
- you may have an .htaccess redirect?

What has changed when you noticed that? your site has been running for a while now

Hi,

I think it ocurred when I updated your component.

Also, if I deactivate it (even if dont deactivate basic joomla SEF) the /fr works OK.
If I deactivate the whole SEF (your component and joomla's one) it works OK.

plese see the attached photo.

I have been checking the htaccess and it does not seem to have that redirect.

If i had the fr menu badly configured it would not work as expected even if I deactivates the SEF.

Please let me know your thoughts,

Best

Hi

Also, if I deactivate it (even if dont deactivate basic joomla SEF) the /fr works OK.
This has nothing to do with what's causing the problem. It only means the problem occurs when sh404SEF is enabled, not that sh404SEF is causing it.
If i had the fr menu badly configured it would not work as expected even if I deactivates the SEF.
No, that doesn't mean anything either.

I will review settings and maybe this can be sorted out that way. If not I will have to download a new backup and debug locally to find what's causing this. Can you do a backup excluding at least most of the data files? I remember there are too many - though I also remember running it without the data files was a nightmare because many things would fail without them.

Could you please provide us with superadmin credentials to your website. You can create a temporary account, and delete it afterwards, but it must have superuser level.

Thanks and regards

Hi Pedro,

In addition to checking the aliases
- you may have an alias from fr to /instrument-electronics/divertimento-modifications-des-surfaces

can you check also the shURL (if you have them enabled)?

Hi !!

Oh thanks ! It was actually the shURL problem. I thought it was prevented to create language-like short urls to avoid this kinds of issue.

So now it seems to work OK.

Thank you very much. Mayby for next updates would it be possible to prevent the creation of "language-code" like shURLs to avoid this kind of silly yet annoying issues.

Best regards,

Pedro

Hi

OK, thanks, glad it's sorted out.

We actually have a check for that. Not for language code per se, but instead for SEF URL. So a shURL cannot be created if there already exists an identical SEF URL.
Obviously, there seem to be situations where that check is not enough. For instance, I think there might be a problem if one adds a language some times after creating the site: when the shURL is created, there's no /fr URL, but it gets added later.
Another situation is if you Purge URLs right before the shURL is created.

Anyway, though rare, I'll have to think about something. Considering the above, I cannot just check for collisions with existing SEF. I have to be sure that shURL will not collide with any language code, whether installed on the site or not. I will have to fix existing shURLs as well, upon next installation.

There will be something in the next version for sure.

Thanks and best regards
