I just posted this in the Joomla forum: http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=712&t=901271&p=3348700#p3348700

Then I thought that NOBODY knows SEO like you guys, so I'm asking you the same question because I'm about to panic...

If I make long pages on a Joomla site that are category blogs, each section of the page being a separate article, will Google index each item as a separate piece of content, or will it index each menu item (category blog) as a single page?

Here is a sample page from my site (the header image won't load... just ignore that)

http://xxxx/our-products/multi-slide-door-systems/series-600-aluminum-multi-slide-door

Basically, each grey bar you see on the page is the headline of the articles in the category blog. Will this page be indexed as a single page or will each article be indexed separately?

Thank you for your help... I nervously await your answer...

Hi

I think the reply you got on the forum is pretty ok, if I understand your question well.

If I make long pages on a Joomla site that are category blogs, each section of the page being a separate article, will Google index each item as a separate piece of content, or will it index each menu item (category blog) as a single page?
Search engines only knows page by a/ their URL b/ their content.

Google can only index that separate article if if finds somewhere a link to it.

Currently it seems to me you display all articles without a "readmore" button and the titles are not linked either, so search engines won't find those URLs and thus won't find the separate articles.

The advice on the forum is fine also in that it warns you that in the future you may somehow make a link public, either in your breadcrumbs, in sitemap, in social buttons, etc

Should that happen, the correct way to handle it would be to identify the link involved, and set a canonical tag on the individual article, pointing back to the "main" page it belongs to.

As long as no link is available on the site, it should be ok I guess.

Rgds
