I'm installing sh404SEF to an existing site following instructions on https://weeblr.com/documentation/products.sh404sef/4/getting-started/joomla-settings.html. When setting global configurations to Use URL Rewriting to Yes, then site gets 404 error. My host (ipage) will not allow htaccess.txt to be renamed to .htaccess. Where do I go from here?

Thanks,
Catherine

Hi

Nowhere. If your site doesn't allow using URL rewriting, then you can't use it. And so you're stuck with having /index.php/ in your URLs.

Or move to another host.

From looking at their pages, it seems to me they have ".htaccess" editor. So probably they are preventing you to directly rename a file to .htaccess, and instead you have to enter content in that file using their editor? using the content of htaccess.txt as a source for the content.

I suggest talking to them, that's a pretty standard procedure, I'm sure they'll tell you how to do that.
