Good afternoon,

Recently I discovered a wrong url witch gave 404 message (see attachment). Luckily for me and you I use sh404sef So I made an alias and if someone now clicks on this article he will see the right article.

Now I have the following question. How do I repair the wrong url and how long do I have to keep the alias?

Regards, Maarten

Hi

How do I repair the wrong url and how long do I have to keep the alias?

You have to understand what happened. Why this URL was changed. Was it intentional? if so, then you have the alias and that's fine, just leave it like that (for ever)

If the change was not intentional, then you have two choices:

1 - you accept that fact, leave the redirect and that's it
2 - or you fix the URL, to go back to the original one. To fix the URL, it depends on each case: what was the original one, what's the new one, and why are they different? Is this a change in the article title, in sh404SEF settings, etc?

Then, when you know, you can decide what to do: change back the article title, or alter the sh404SEF settings

If you can't do that, then in last resort, you can manually customize the faulty URL, in the URL manager (see documentation), so that it looks back again like the original one. When you do that, you should then remove the alias, which is not needed anymore as the "bad" URL no longer exists.
