 Hi,

We are using Joomla 3x and EasySocial 1.3.11. Purchased sh404SEF to implement friendly URLs on the site. I asked the team to implement also for profile and group pages so that we can have something like OurDomain/Weeblr or OurDomain/Chris. For that we were using the Profile URL extension that installs to EasySocial.

Please take a look at the conversation between the member of my development team and the support tech from Simbunch who was checking on issues we thought were with Profile URL. He seems to indicate that there is an issue with sh404SEF on the site. (See attached) - I apologize for the format as this is a chat transcript between my team member (SDD SDEI) and Simbunch, Profile URL support (Mike Feng).

I would like to have you verify what is causing the redirect issues with the site URLs and possibly help us resolve any issues that we're having. Does sh404SEF also work for the profile and groups URL per the example above?

Thank you,

Chris

Hi

There's only extrelemely confused information in that thread. Here is what I have gathered:

- your developer complain that when they reach (probably) a dev version of the site at http://xxxx, they get into an "infinite redirection loop"

- your developer doesn't seem very familiar with Joomla and URL rewriting in general:
to disable joomla sef I'll have to change the .htaccess to htaccess.txt

- Obviously the Simbunch fellow doesn't like sh404SEF, and a consequence (or as the cause) doesn't know how to work with it, so he did probably the worst possible thing: disable sh404SEF plugins, which cannot do anything else but bring additionaly confusion: sh404SEF has an on/off switch on the main control panel, just use that.

If I am to work on this, we need the following:

- a clear description of the problem, with facts (ie: go to this URL, you'll see this, it should be like this)
- superadmin credentials
- other people, especially Mike from Simbunch, stops working on this, as he's adding extreme confusion to the bunch. When we know what the problem is, we can all together decide where the fix needs to be applied and by who.

Hi

[quote]Current url for logged in user is : http://xxxx/community/620-admin
Required url : xxxx for EasySocials are created by their plugin (router.php or sh404SEF specific plugin maybe).

I thought you said you were using Simbunch profile URL plugin for that? yes or no?

Hi,

I wanted to follow up after speaking to our developer on the project (Not Mike Feng - he is not on this).

The issue that he is having is that EasySocial profile and group pages are dynamic and can change, so how do we configure these with sh404SEF so that it works properly and does not break the site?

Thank you,

Chris

Not sure what you mean by that. Can you provide an example?
Do you mean that the same URL may tomorrow go to another group for instance?

Hi,

I am talking about EasySocial on permalink, since it is mainly a user's URL and users can change permalink anytime they want to.. I see this was already discussed on your own site, but it is unclear what the answer was:

Please advise,

Thank you,

Hi

Ah I see what you mean now. It's not a failure or something that could be implemented by us. URLs are stored in the database. If a user changes its username, and thus theoretically, its profile URL, then we have no way to know that.
In theory, it's fairly simple: EasySocial would just have to delete the URL in sh404SEF database and call JRoute() for a new one to be created.

That said, it's something in very small demand of course: as we're an SEO extension, we actually just want the opposite; that the URL never change, even if the title or content of a page changes a little bit (see my reply in that other thread #49).

Now what I would question however is why you would use sh404SEF with EasySocial. I assume most of the content will require logged in users, so it won't be visible to search engines and won't help your for SEO. Why not just set EasySocial to "Use Joomla router" in sh404SEF config?
