Hi.
We put keywords, descriptions in our article but we want an easiest way to manage SEO.

In sh404sef, if i go in "title and meta", everything is empty.

I found this component: EFSEO and it seams very easy to use in frontend.

Is it a good idea to use this or is it not recommended to mimx this component with sh404sef??

Thanks for your help.
Best regards

Hi

I don't see why it would be a problem to use both, but I haven't tested that (and I won't).

It's normal that meta and title are empty in sh404SEF. Joomla and sh404SEF works in different way, we use the URL of a page to attach meta and title, while Joomla attach them directly to an article.

So basically, you choose to use one or the other.

A difference also is that because we use URL, we can setup title and meta for ANY page on your site, even if Joomla has no provision for it (other than article pages, other extensions, ect).

Not sure if I understand it good...

It look to be best to use sh404 for managing meta. As I started a year ago to fill meta in Joomla articles, now I need to delete all meta in my article to have theme automatically generated by sh404?

Il yes, i Will do that but is there a way to do that one shot? (I have many articles)
Thanks for your help.

Hi

No, you don't need to delete anything. If you have done that, they will always be used. You can add new ones in sh404SEF.

However, because of the difference in the way things are stored, we cannot retrieve the Joomla ones, so we cannot display both ours and the Joomla ones in the meta manager.
This is not very convenient as you won't know if you have already created meta for a given page or not.

But again, if you don't transfer meta from Joomla to sh404SEF, nothing is lost and they'll still be displayed by Joomla directly.

I think i missed something...

SEO fonctions are enabled in SH404SEF.

I took an article and deleted description and keyword just to try.

Now if i look on the source code of this page, description is taken in the global setup of joomla and keywords are empty...

Title is generated by SH404

And in the meantime i was writing this, i realize that SH404 doesn't generate automatically keywords and description... Right? I need to add them manually in the component?

Best regards

Hi

Absolutely. And we will never do that.

First keywords. Just don't spend one second of your time on them. They are not used by search engines, not even read from your page. One exception is Baidu, the main Chinese search engine. So if you want to rank in Chinese language countries, that's something you want to do.

As for description, they are only useful if you actually write them, whether directly or as part of a product description. Description are not used for ranking either, only to be displayed in search results - sometimes.
A few lines of PHP is not going to figure out what a good description is. And if you don't write a good one, then better just let google pick what he thinks is best. But the only good solution here is to write them manuallY;
