I have installed the SH404sef from your company and I would like to enable mod_rewrite. I am attempting to modify my .htaccess in the root folder of my website. The only information the root file named .htaccess file is the following: AddHandler application/x-httpd-php56 .php .php5 .php4 .php3.

In my public_html file another file named htaccess.txt is present. It appear that this file is the one I need to rename to .htaccess. However when I try to rename I can not because the other file is named .htaccess. Please advise me of what to do. The information in the htaccess.txt I have provided via attachment.
Thank you

Hi

.htaccess is something part of your web server, there's nothing we can do about it as it's totally outside of Joomla or sh404SEF itself.

The poeple you need to talk to are your hosting company, who setup your web server (and created the first .htaccess you have).

If I were to try something in your case, I would copy/paste the line from the existing .htaccess to the top of the Joomla provided htaccess.txt file, rename .htaccess to .htaccess.disabled, and then rename htaccess.txt to .htaccess.
That's just shooting in the dark, so if that doesn't work, just contact your hosting company.
