In Google Search Console, I have a lot of "Not found" crawl errors like

https://www.xxxx.com/Deposit-Pricing/Banking/?format=feed&type=rss

When I click on the URL to generate an entry in the 404 requests manager, I don't get an entry for which I can add a redirect.

Is this a configuration problem on my part or a problem somewhere?

Hi

Visiting https://www.xxxx.com/Deposit-Pricing/Banking/?format=feed&type=rss, I can see that the error page displayed is the Joomla one, meaning that sh404SEF error handling is bypassed.
There are various situations where sh404SEF is not able to take Joomla error handling, depending on your template mostly, but also other extensions that may be running on your site.

We have extended the number of situations we are able to override Joomla error handling in next version, so best is to first test the current development version, which will be released daily. You can download it from here.

That said, we never record the full URL, ie including query vars, but only the path part (there are just too many variations).
In such case, you should just add the faulty URL as an alias to the one you want to redirect to.
Please note as mentioned in your other thread that redirecting a 404 should only be done if you have a good reason (ie similar content). If a page never existed or don't exist anymore, there's no SEO benefit to redirecting it. So if you do it, it's only for user convenience, and again, even for users, they must be informed of what's happening, not just sent to some random page on the site, with no relationship to their initial request.

I guess my fundamental question is why does the Google crawler think that these URLs exist in the first place?

Because of all of the Google crawl errors, I've started using some link checkers, and they don't find these URLs, so where is Google coming up with them.

Hi

I guess my fundamental question is why does the Google crawler think that these URLs exist in the first place?
Because they do. You have them inside your pages. You don't need a link checker for that, just look up the source code of , for instance, https://www.xxxx.com/Deposit-Pricing/Banking/ and you'll see those links.
