Hi there,
Just purchased SH404 after years of AceSEF - they simple do not provide any service.
Anyway, it will be a touch transition, but I am optimistic.

Straight off, let me be a little annoying and ask:
despite a clear indication in the documentation, that SH404 will not work with virtual domains,
is there actually a way to make it work?
It's kind of a big part of how I use joomla.

thx

Hi

If you mean associate a language to a specific subdomain for instance, there's next to no chance that will happen, at least with Joomla 3. The problem is in the Joomla language filter and I don't know how to workaround it, except in the standard case;

If this is about associating different content categories with different domains, nope, I don't think that can be done

OK,
I need your help.
I installed sh404 on xxxx.com - it started acting strange,
homepage would redirect to xxxx.com/log-in and some modules got lost (did not display)
so I uninstalled it and it went from bad to worse.

Now I spent a full day on and off trying different things, disabling, enabling, playing with ACL, router.php - EVERYTHING.

I am totally lost and my site cas crashed - can you please help?
xxxx.com/administrator, xxxx, xxxx
and if you need cpanel:
secure.xxxx.com:xxxx, username xxxx

Hi

You should have come earlier. Upon logging in, I see multiple issues in your current setup. I hope you haven't broken too many things, when you start talking about router.php, I'm worried!
Also, I can see on sh404SEF control panel a '##' string, which would indicate that you made some changes to it.... Just hope you reverted everything.

So:

- Joomla SEF URL didn't match sh404SEF (you had Use URL rewriting off, while you did set sh404SEF to use it)
- You had the Joomla cache system plugin enabled, which is a no-go when you're developing the site. Just too much interference with operation. Enable it when you site is nearing completion.
- Your multilingual setup is not complete: you have not declared appropriate content language under the "Content" tab of Joomla language configuration.

If you finalize the multilingual setup correctly, then purge URLs in sh404SEF to have correct URLs be created, it should work better.

Hi,
Thanks for that, I made the 3 changes (i think) and it seems to work.

Right now, I have ACL issues (for example top menu not displaying in some instances)
which I am not sure if I can attribute to sh404 or not.

Overall, I love the extension, the smart 404 by itself is worth the money.

I know you specifically wrote somewhere that virtual domains would not work with sh404,
and i am thinking if this is the case or not.
I am super determined to try to make it work - do think it's possible?

Let me explain:

xxxx.com uses main menu (top) and some main modules,
i can see the SEF URLs are being generated nicely, and I disabled SEF for WHMCS (hosting)
- by the way, do you think I could make it work??? that would be fantastic, right now the URLs are crap.
a typical URL would like like https://xxxx.com/portal/cart.php?gid=2

Anyway,
the user has an option from top menu to go to xxxx.com.au
The top menu changes slightly, I have renamed the menu aliases to make it more country specific,
so for example menu blog layout "blog" was changed to "australian-hosting-blog" etc...
However what happening is those different menu names are not being displayed,
for example:
https://xxxx.com/about/service-flexibility-and-freedom-for-all
and
https://xxxx.com.au/about/service-flexibility-and-freedom-for-all

In the longer run of course I am aiming at unique content to avoid duplicate content, but right now just trying to make it work.
My though process -
If the menus and articles are unique, I will avoid sh404 URL duplicate issues, right?
so https://xxxx.com/about/service-flexibility-and-freedom-for-all
and https://xxxx.com.au/about-australia/service-flexibility-and-freedom-for-all-australia
will be unique and different

How can I make it work with SEF URLs as listed under sh404?
should I use aliases?
custom URLs?

--

The other thing is, upon your recommendation re: sitemap i purchase jsitemap,
but first of all it crashes (I will send them an email)
but secondly how will I be able to get unique sitemaps for different country-specific websites?

YOUR HELP GREATLY APPRECIATED

Rob

I know it's not possible and any of your time spent on this will be a waste.

sh404SEF can only work with one domain at a time. I'm not aware of anyway to make this work.
