 HI,

I've just updated to v.4.4.8 and purged all my URLs and 404s (although not my aliases).

Before I had URLs like this:
http://www.xxxx.es/bingo/salas/salas-de-bingo-en-barcelona.html
which are now like this:
http://www.xxxx.es/salas/salas-de-bingo-en-barcelona.html

i.e. the parent menu alias is no longer in the URLs of the submenus and their items.

Please advise ASAP as I have a lot of URLs indexed in the previous format!

Hi

Menu aliases are not used in URLs made by sh404SEF (that's why one uses it, to get rid of them). Are you saying you had sh404SEF before and it created those urls?

Hi,

I've been using sh404SEF since 2006 more or less, so yes those original URLs come from sh404SEF.

They used to take the format:
site.com/section/category/item.html

Since purging, they seem to use
site.com/category/item.html

Of course Joomla no longer uses sections, only multiple nested categories.

My question should be, how do I replicate the desired structure? I.e. site.com/section/category/item.html

Thanks!

Ah ok, understand. Well, when we moved from /section/categories to nested categories, we assumed that most people would just keep the same categories.
That is if you had a "bingo" section and a "salas" category, then you would create a top "bingo" category and a "salas" subscategory.
By default, sh404SEF is set to include the top two categories in the URL, so the URLs created would be the same "/bingo/salas/bingo-salas-in....

Have you used a different category structure than on your previous site?

Hi,

The categories and subcatergories are as you described, and were in place after the migration several months ago. The URLs were working correctly, it's the latest upgrade to J3.4 and the the latest sh404SEF that has resulted in a problem.

The URLs for the subcategories are as expected. E.g.
http://www.xxxx.es/bingo/
http://www.xxxx.es/bingo/salas/

It's the articles that are dropping the main category from the URL and appear as
http://www.xxxx.es/salas/salas-de-bingo-en-barcelona.html
when they should be
http://www.xxxx.es/bingo/salas/salas-de-bingo-en-barcelona.html

You can login to the admin here: www.xxxx.es/administrator/
xxxx / xxxx

Please note that on the site, the Joomla "Main Menu" is in the footer. The header is a customised HTML menu with links to the older URLs i.e. they currently generate 404 errors :-(

Thanks, Judd

Hi Judd,

I went to sh404SEF settings, and you've got this: https://weeblr.com/images/screenshots/9c7D1x8obNoXM5iL37x4n817AKfXpV.png

meaning, you're indeed asking it to include only the last category in URLs. You should change that to "Top 2" so that it includes both /bingo/ and /salas/ in the URLs.
Or even to "All nested categories", if you have or plan to have articles stored in deeper sub-categories.

Now after you change that setting, you will have to either purge URLs, or at least delete those URLs that should be created again with the new settings.
I didn't do the change myself, as I didn't know if the site is live, and also this may be a deliberate choice on your part for some reason.

I see what you mean about the header, but i fyou put back the categories in the URLs, they should be OK

Thank you!!!

That fixed it, I've purged and crawled the site with Screaming Frog to regenerate all the URLs.

I'm sure I didn't touch that config setting, so I'm not sure why it was set to "one" - it's a setting I've not touched before in any previous migration.

Anyway, many thanks - all my indexed URLs are now responding correctly :-)
