4SEO pages list with new refreshed UI design

June 2026 releases: Updated UI

Hi all,

We've just had new major releases for all our extensions, so I thought a quick post was in order to provide a bit of background.

In software development, major releases (from 1.x to 2.x, from 2.x to 3.x, etc.) are for when something, well, major changes. Many times, as is the case with the Joomla project itself, a major release happens when some things are broken compared to the previous major version.

I avoid at all costs breaking "backward compatibility" as it's called, so for me, the major change was about refreshing my extensions' user interface. Of course, there's more, including a few 4SEO features for AI search.

AI search

There are unfortunately a lot of "AI search features" thrown around by various Joomla extensions, while in fact AI search is not really a thing in itself, at least when it comes to your website.

Still, there are a few use cases where we can do something technical on the site. That's why 4SEO now has full support for generating Markdown versions of your website pages, as well as creating an llms.txt file.

Both features are useless for SEO and even for AI search – i.e., being mentioned in ChatGPT or Gemini – but they can be useful for a very specific use case.

As this is a topic in itself, I have written a separate article. Please find the rest of the story in 4SEO AI search features.

All Weeblr's extensions have an updated admin UI

I designed the admin user interface of our extensions at the start of 2020, when I moved them from a traditional Joomla architecture to a more modern single-page application system, based on JavaScript (Svelte + Tailwind).

Both the technology and the design were very well received, and make life easier both for you and for me.

But after 6 years, while the base structure still works perfectly, it was time for a small visual refresh.

Less colourful but easier on the eyes

Our signature, colourful toolbar was a distinctive attribute of all our extensions, but eventually, it may now be a bit too much "in your face", so the redesign aims at a clearer, simpler UI, with colours only used to highlight important things, and not as a primary feature.

Squircle for those who can

What's a "squircle", you may ask? It's something between a square and a circle, that can be used now for corners on web pages:

I picked this to bring about clarity and space, while not using too much space, actually.

Here is another example with a configuration dialog:

Unfortunately, at the moment, only Chromium-based browsers such as Chrome, Edge and a lot of others support squircle corners, but we have designed a fallback system so Firefox and Safari users will still see rounded corners.

Accessibility

If you look through each extension's changelog, you'll see a series of minor accessibility-related fixes.

Accessibility has always been a focus point in the 2020 technology choice, and I'm proud to say that all our extensions aim for WCAG 2.2 AAA, for all combinations of light and dark modes, as well as all 5 accent colours we offer.

There were a few edge cases that would not pass the tests, but the audit is clean now, for all pages (yes, the 4 errors are from the Joomla top toolbar, which is AA compliant, while our extensions are AAA):

That's all for now, more coming your way soon!

Cheers,

Yannick
