4Podcast is a modern, integrated solution to add a podcast to your Joomla 3 to 5 website. It uses Joomla native custom fields for a seamless integration and ease of use.
What is a podcast?
A podcast is a series of audio files, published on a regular basis - or not, that can be listened to on demand.
Podcasts are usually distributed through a podcast app/platform such as Apple Podcast (iTunes), Google Podcast, Spotify, Amazon and many more, but can also be listened to directly on your website.
What is 4Podcast?
4Podcast is a Joomla 3 & 4 extension that adds a podcast - or several podcasts - to your website.
It lets you manage your podcast entirely from within Joomla, which means you actually own your content and don't rely on platforms rules and presentation.
However, your 4Podcast podcast can absolutely be published through all the most popular podcast platforms, at the same time you make it available from your website.
How does 4Podcast work
4Podcast builds a podcast by:
- attaching a podcast show to any regular Joomla category, new or existing
- making all or some articles in this category a podcast episode
As you are using regular categories for the show, and articles for each episode, this will all blend easily in your existing website.
You can also use you regular content editor - even a page builder - to create each episode page or additional material - such a transcript.
4Podcast includes a podcast player, automatically added - as a custom field - to each episode. This player let your visitors listen to your podcast directly from your website.
While a podcast show is associated with one single category, you can host as many podcasts as desired on the same website: just use one category per podcast.
The 4Podcast audio player
The player is:
- fully responsive
- accessible
- optimized to avoid Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) issues, which could negatively impact your SEO
- includes sharing buttons for Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, WhatsApp and your RSS feed link
- customizable both by you and by your visitors
- visitors settings are stored in their browser, so they are remembered when they come back to your website
- no cookie or personal information is stored, no need for a cookie consent banner for 4Podcast
By default, the player will show either in a dark or light theme, depending on the visitor's browser settings. There are multiple other color themes, and you can customize what to show and whether user can select their own theme.

What it does not do
At the moment, 4Podcast does not help you record your podcast episodes directly. You should record your episodes and process the audio as needed - we do have a few recording tips for you. Once you have that podcast audio file, upload it to your website just like any other image or file.
4Podcast will take it from there and publish the file in accordance to podcasting - and podcasting platforms - technical requirements
