I get "Could not connect to analytics server" when trying to enabling analytics. I've double and triple checked the Universal tracking ID.

I also see no tracking code inserted. Could the template be at fault? We are using a template from 2015 (that we like ;-) I see code inserted from other components and modules so probably not.

What else to look for?

Our site is at https://xxxx.se.

Hi

I get "Could not connect to analytics server" when trying to enabling analytics. I've double and triple checked the Universal tracking ID.

This error is not really related to your tracking ID. There's no need to be connected to Analytics to simply insert analytics snippet. You need to connect you Analytics account only to be able to display analytics results. Relevant page of the documentation is this one.

If you do not perform the connection procedure, then you won't be able to display analytics results in sh404SEF but that won't prevent you from having the analytics snippet inserted in your pages.

Could the template be at fault? We are using a template from 2015 (that we like ;-) I see code inserted from other components and modules so probably not.

Usually this comes from access levels. In sh404SEF, makes sure you have the default settings:

If set as above, the analytics snippet should be inserted.

Wait, I looked at your site and I see not trace of sh404SEF being enabled. Did you:

- enable URL optimization?

- made sure "SEO management" is enabled? (it is by default) under the SEO configuration tab?

Thanks, that was one part. I'm quite sure that I did turn them on and pressed save...

But I know I hade multiple tabs open at the same time, maybe that was a the cause for not saving correctly, or overwriting...

I had multiple tabs open on the sh404 component to figure out why I get "Could not connect to analytics server", which I still do.

So now that the component is activated correctly, why do I still get the message? And what does "Not authenticated yet" mean?

Is that the Analytics property verification? If, so that has already been done for a long time, or can there be a reason that has been deactivated? I can't see an indication of that in the Analytics console.

Hi

So now that the component is activated correctly, why do I still get the message? And what does "Not authenticated yet" mean?

There are 2 parts to Analytics:

1 - Inserting the Google Analytics code into your pages. This is now working and does not require any form of authorization.

2 - Viewing results, ie viewing traffic statistics inside of sh404SEF admin or on the site frontend. This requires accessing your Google Analytics data and therefore you need to perform the authorization procedure described in the documentation page already linked above.

If you do not care about viewing Analytics data inside of your site admin, then you can disable reports display in sh404SEF configuration:

Thanks, that explained much! I did not realize that the Analytics Manager was about displaying in admin, nor that that feature was enabled by default.

So I thought that the message was indicating an error in the configuration of the component. Well, in a way it was ...

Thank you very much for your help and explanations!
