Hello,

After upgrading my test site from joomla 3.10.1 to joomla 4.0.3, I can't install sh404SEF (4.23.2.4269 was previously installed but disabled before the upgrade)

The error message is simply : sh404SEF requires Joomla! version between 3.9.0 and 4.0 (you are using 4.0.3). Aborting installation

Installation also fails with 4.23.4.4281-dev

Thanks for your help.

P.S : this is not a high issue, because I'm just looking how migration will work and if it will work for my customers :)

Hi

Exactly as what the message says, sh404SEF is not and will not be made compatible with Joomla 4. Instead, it will be replaced by a smaller extension, only dealing with SEF URLs, so as to allow users to keep their URLs when they move to Joomla 4.

However, 4SEF will not have any SEO features which are already taken over by 4SEO. Please read our blog post on Joomla 4 and our extensions here for all details.

Note that in next 4SEO version  (version 1.5, scheduled for November 4), we have added an automatic redirect function: you can move to Joomla 4 and just use 4SEO, it will automatically redirect all sh404SEF URLs to their Joomla SEF counterpart. I don't recommend changing URLs in such way, it's always best to keep the same URLs but if you prefer to do so and don't wait for 4SEF, or want to simplify your setup, it's now possible.

Hi Yannick,

My mistake, I thought that sh404SEF were compatible with Joomla 4.0 but not 4.0.3...
Also, I didn't saw the blog post. I'll take a deep look into it.

I'll wait for 4SEF, and also wait a little more to make "the great jump" :)

Thanks for your clear explanation.

Regards

Hi

Cool, I think it's fair to wait a bit before moving to Joomla 4 anyway, unless we're talking about Joomla content-only websites. As long as you have a custom template or use any moderately complex extension, you may want to be sure extensions are OK.

Exceptions are extensions such as 4SEO which were entirely developed in the last 18 months, meaning it was developed mostly on Joomla 4, and then ported back to Joomla 3 of couse, but entirely new extensions are rare.

Closing this ticket now, feel free to open a new one as needed. If you do so, please mention this ticket number in the new one.
