Hello

I created a new website in Joomla. It is multilingual using only the Joomla multilingual and not Falang or anything else. I have read everything on similar issues on yur website but still don't now what to do.

I created one SEF URL www.xxxx.com/contact-us to replace hte long version www.xxxx.com/en/about-us/contact-us This didnt work and I get "too many redirects" error. I tried changing another link with the same result. There seems to be lots of duplicates too.

Can you advise what could be wrong? How can I make this work?

That's totally fine. If you see duplicates listed, it means sh404SEF is protecting you from them. You would have an issue if you did not see duplicates.

I'm pretty sure the problem here is that you cannot have /contact-us URL on a joomla site. It needs to be /en/contact-us. The Joomla multilingual system requires a language code in all URLs.

Because the language code is missing, the Joomla language filter plugin is doing a redirect and this causes the loop you see.

Change again the URL to /en/contact-us and this should remove the issue.

NB: of course, you also need to check that you have added rediercts (under the Aliases page) that could cause this.

Dear Yannick

many thanks for getting back to me. I left "en" at the front of the new address so the address is now www.xxxx.com/en/contact-us However when the page actually opens, the address in the browser shows as https://www.xxxx.com/en/uncategorised/aluvyaji-rent-a-car-tours - this is one of the aliases showing under the aliases tab. What am I doing wrong? I thought that the address would be showing as www.xxxx.com/en/contact-us - this looks nicer. How do I get the new short addresses to show instead of the old or aliases?

An Alias is a type of redirect. I think you added a redirect from /en/contact-us to /en/uncategorised/aluvyaji-rent-a-car-tours instead of the opposite way.

I'd suggest deleting all lines showing under the Aliases input field in that record.

many thanks again. I tried what you sugested, I think. I just changed the New SEF URL to /en/contact-us and deleted all teh aliases, but when the page opens it shows https://www.xxxx.com/en/uncategorised/aluvyaji-rent-a-car-tours and not www.xxxx.com/en/contact-us

What should I do to have the page address show www.xxxx.com/en/contact-us ?

I am reading this https://weeblr.com/documentation/products.sh404sef/4/going-further/sef-urls/customize-sef-url.html

If I understand these instructions correctly, I am supposed to put https://www.xxxx.com/en/uncategorised/aluvyaji-rent-a-car-tours into aliases tab - but that is what I had and it didn't work.
