Caveat emptor.  I'm a new user of this wonderful product. I tried searching for this, but didn't find an answer.

On my website (https://xxxx.org) the menu structure mimicks the article categories and subcategories.  Two of the categories, Worship and About, have subcategories.  Accessing the top level menu items works fine as well as the sub menu items, except Worship/Sermons.  Sermons is a blog category menu item.  The initial load of Worship/Sermons works fine, with the URL being https://xxxx.org/worship/sermons/.

However, when I access a sermon article it becomes https://xxxx.org/sermons/at-the-center

Before I noticed the issue with Sermons, I had a similar issue with About, where it would become About/About, About/About/Ministry Staff, etc. I manually fixed that so it displays properly, but I'm realizing that this approach probably isn't the best OR viable for Sermons as there are many articles in the Sermons subcategory.

Hi

The initial load of Worship/Sermons works fine, with the URL being https://xxxx.org/worship/sermons/

That looks like a category URL, with default settings.

https://xxxx.org/sermons/at-the-center

That looks like an article URL for an article called "At the center" located in the category "sermons".

Note that your menu structure is not used at all to build URLs, only categories and articles aliases - with default settings at least.

If "sermons" is a sub-category of another category ("worship"?), then again with default settings, the URL should be /worship/sermons/at-the-center. By default, the last 2 categories are included in article URLs.

You may have changed things from default settings altering this behavior in:

- Under the Extensions -> Joomla tab of sh404SEF configuration

- under the By component tab: here, please reset everything to default

I had a similar issue with About, where it would become About/About

That would be the URL of an article called "About" located in a category also called "About". Is this what you have?

Best regards

it would seem my email reply didn't post.

so i went into configuration > extensions > joomla, but the way this is  set, i cannot determine what the defaults are suppose to be.  there's no option tip that states what the default is.

to try and get the defaults, i did an uninstalled and reinstall, but that didn't wipe reset the options.

i attempted several changes - one at a time - to try and get it working the way that i want, but each time a different unwanted behavior would occur.

what are the defaults?

i understand that this module doesn't use the menus, but what i'm attempting to do is have it so that sh404SEF mimicks the menu structures, which is category > subcategory > article_title

however, none of the menu items are doing this.  for instance, any items under Welcome displays the article, but not as Welcome > article_title. similarly, Worship > Sermons. that displays the category blog, but click on any article in that and it displays the article, but not at Worship > Sermons > article_title

right now this is costing MORE time and headaches than the solution that i wanted.

Hi

Yes, all settings are preserved when uninstalling.

what are the defaults?

Here a screenshot of the defautl values, but unless you have many, many nested sub-categories, I don't think this is relevant here:

i understand that this module doesn't use the menus, but what i'm attempting to do is have it so that sh404SEF mimicks the menu structures, which is category > subcategory > article_title

Not sure what you mean by "menu structure". sh40SEF will use the actual category and subcategory alias in the URL. It does not care or look at the menu aliases, if this is what you mean "mimick the menu structure".

however, none of the menu items are doing this.  for instance, any items under Welcome displays the article, but not as Welcome > article_title. similarly, Worship > Sermons. that displays the category blog, but click on any article in that and it displays the article, but not at Worship > Sermons > article_title

Best is to speak about one and only one example. If I go to Worsjhip > Sermons, the URL of the page is indeed:

https://xxxx.org/worship/sermons/

The first article on this page is: "At the Center". The link is https://xxxx.org/at-the-center

This tells me that you have set "Show category" to "None":

Set that either "Last 2" or "All nested categories" depending on how deep your categories structure is, delete the previous incorrect URLs, purge browser and Joomla cache and reload the home page so that udpated URLs are built.
