The paginated links of Virtuemart category page I need them to stay as by default. I mean with the parameter ?start=X

After installing the sh404sef plugin all paginated Urls changed to static ex. resultsX.html

Is there an option of doing that?

Thank you

Hi

I'm afraid not. What's the problem? compatibility with old URLs?

The SEO manager wants to exclude paginated URLs from beeing indexed and needs to use ?parameter for this purpose.

Hi

They want to exclude page 2, 3, 4 of your site from Google indexing? that's odd. How is Google supposed to find your products if you exclude them from being indexed?

Regardless, they can always do that with the current URLs, with rules in your robots.txt file. Whether it's ?start=xxx or resultsX.html does not matter, they just write the appropriate rule.

But please ask a second opinion, this is an extremely weird thing to do.

Finally we will maintane the results pages from indexing. But we need the rel = next and prev, is it possible to be added? How?

Thank you

Hi

But we need the rel = next and prev, is it possible to be added? How?

It should happen automatically, I don't know why it's not doing it on your site.

BUT: again, rel next and rel prev are not used anymore and it's been more than 2 years since Google publicly stated they don't event read them, and even updated their documentation. Why would you want to have them?

I left this feature in sh404SEF because, well, it's already there. I can look at your site and search why it's not being added (probably a conflict with the template) but be aware that it will definitely be removed in next versions anyway so this is all wasted time.

We need this not so much for SEO as Google doesn´t need it anymore, but for accesibility/usability disabled users.

This is the demo link

Hi

These rel tags are not involved in accessibility, and never have been.

For accessible pagination, one needs to use a nav for the container (or use role=navigation), an aria-label, an aria-current attribute for the current page and the use of aria-disabled for links that are not active. But not rel/prev/next.

Hi

So I still logged in to your site:

1 - You're right, your pagination is not accessible at all. Please see comments about on how to improve that.

2 - The rel/prev/next links are not inserted because this is a virtuemart output, possibly with template overrides on the pagination object. As sh404SEF is not handling the pagination, it cannot detect which links are the previous and next, and so it does not insert those links.

Hi

OK never mind. We will leave it as is.

Thank you!

Hi

You're welcome! Your comment on accessibility is right though, I never realized how not-accessible are so many front-end templates. It certainly will be an issue, especially with e-commerce sites.
