Hello,

I included a screen shot from the view of your sh404 component used on our website.

We don't want the "de/tag/tag/leichenschau" URL, tried to delete it but it keeps getting generated against instantly.

We want to keep the "de/tag/leichenschau" URL and the only difference in the Non-SEF URL is that one has an Itemid and the other one does not.

Do you have any idea why this happens and know how to resolve this issue?

Let me know if you need more information in order to help us.

Regards

Hi

We don't want the "de/tag/tag/leichenschau" URL, tried to delete it but it keeps getting generated against instantly.

As expected. sh404SEF does not create URLs, it only records them. URLs are created by Joomla or the extensions on your site, in non-sef form, then sent to sh404SEF to be turned into SEF and recorded.

When deleting a record in sh404SEF, you only delete the record but next time Joomla or an extension re-create that same URL, it will come back in the list.

We want to keep the "de/tag/leichenschau" URL and the only difference in the Non-SEF URL is that one has an Itemid and the other one does not.

Do you have any idea why this happens and know how to resolve this issue?

 It happens because on the pages of your site you have either links, or Joomla/extensions creates both links. Note that:

- the link may appear in the URL list because an extension or Joomla created it but it may not be visible on your site. Sometimes those links (without Itemid) are found in sitemaps or in RSS feeds, or in breadcrumbs.

- You would have exactly the same with or without sh404SEF. With just Joomla you would not know about it, because Joomla does not have a list of URLs.

Can you find that link without Itemid somewhere on your site?

Hello,

thank you for the fast reply.

Can you find that link without Itemid somewhere on your site?

Yes, I know where and by which extension the non-SEF URL without Itemid are generated. Unfortunately I do not have the option to change how they are created.

in non-sef form, then sent to sh404SEF to be turned into SEF and recorded.

Is there a way for sh404SEF to make both non-SEF URLs from my example into the same SEF URL?

Hi

Is there a way for sh404SEF to make both non-SEF URLs from my example into the same SEF URL?

Automatically, no. Tags are such seldom used that we don't have a plugin for them, we just default back to Joomla plugin.

That said, you can click on that URL and change it to exactly what you want so as there's only one, I'd suggest manually customizing it.

Hi Yannick,

thanks for your reply. We're using about 200 Tags. Quite a lot of work.

I could thought I had figured out a workaround for the url generation but the indexed finder component also generates those urls.

Thought more websites would use tags in the meantime...

Hi

Thought more websites would use tags in the meantime...

Tags have been around for many years. They were intended as a solution to Joomla not being able to put content into multiple categories which they sort of solve but then they are not really categories (as you cannot have nested tags). So in the end, really few people use them.

But that's really not the point here. What I would do in that situation (unless you can code or hire a coder to make some custom changes), instead of trying to customize the URLs, is keep the "secondary" URL but add a canonical to the "main" one.

You can do that in one instruction under the Aliases tab of sh404SEF. Add a new rule, of type "canonical", using:

- alias: /de/tag/tag/{*}

- target: /de/tag/{*}

Save and make sure that all pages with URLs like de/tag/tag/leichenschau now have a canonical to their counterpart: de/tag/leichenschau
