Hi - I have just installed SH404SEF twice on each occasion it appears to lock my website.  Using latest Joomla with SP PageBuilder with the FLEX template and have followed the advice given under the link below.

As soon as I turn on SH404SEF - the site becomes unresponsive.  Can you help? Would really like to get this working - presumably it is not liking another plugin somewhere but cannot seen to narrow it down.

Hi

As soon as I turn on SH404SEF - the site becomes unresponsive.  Can you help?

Not without:

- full and real URLs to the pages in question

- superadmin access so I can enable/disable sh404SEF

- what do you mean by "unresponsive"? what happens on your screen?

- Have you looked into the browser console for errors?

Best regards

Hi Jannick,

Site is at www.xxxx.com - SH404SEF has been reinstalled but is currently not turned on.  As soon as URL Optimization is turned on the entire site - front and back end becomes unresponsive in that they lock on the the configuration page.  If I wait 10 minutes I can get back into the site backend - but the Quickstart / Security and configuration tabs are unresponsive but pages under the SEF URLS were pulled in.  There are around 19 pages in all so a small site.

Eventually the Joomla backend lags completely and the actual web pages do not respond and eventually time out.  I have checked the server on which Joomla sits and it barely utilises 5% of CPU or memory.

I have created you a superuser account and have installed but not turned on URL Optimization at the moment.  Hope this helps?

Joomla version, 3.9.23.

Hi

1. What's the history here? is that a brand new site? did it have sh404SEF at any point in the past? what sort of traffic does it have?

2. Is it a self managed VPS? or what's the hosting company?

3. I have experienced the same as you however I don't think sh404SEF itself has anything to do with it, considering the symptoms. The only thing I can think of that can match what I see is the MYSQL server dying. This is usually linked to database tables with errors or damaged.

I assume the 10mn gap is for the MYSQL server to trigger some safeguards on the server which cause a reboot of mysql but that's only a guess.

The site does not work now, so I'd suggest the following once it's back up:

- Go to sh404SEF configuration, under the Advanced tab, scroll all the way down and set all "Upgrade configuration" options to No:

This will cause all data stored by sh404SEF to be wiped out and all db tables to be deleted upon uninstallation

- Uninstall (hence also deleting the sh404SEF database table)

- make an akeeba backup of the empty site, for reference

- Download a fresh version and install again

No the site has been up a while - just looking at working on SEO over the break - sh404SEF had never been installed previously

2. Is it a self managed VPS? or what's the hosting company?

The site is on ionos.co.uk - I have a cloud base VPS that I manage this end.  I will look to do what you said and see what happens.  Once up I will do somec checking about and see what may be conflicting.  Thanks Jannick

Hi

OK, I'll leave this open. An interesting thing to do is really to take an akeeba backup and install an exact copy on another machine, even if just on your local computer. To be sure whether this is server-related or otherwise.

I will leave this ticket open in case you need to add something. It will automatically close in 2 weeks if no further comment is made.

Hi

So you did the uninstall/re-install?

if that did the trick, then it means the database tables were damaged and needed fixing. You can perform such fix using phpmyadmin or directly if your admin your server.

Uninstalling/resinstalling re-created the tables, so the new ones are good now.
