Hi - I've read the documentation and I'm not sure how to deal with the following situation:

https://xxxx.co.uk

And

https://xxxx.co.uk/interior-and-graphic-design-agency

are actually the same page - the home page for the website. How do I set things so they both goto:

https://xxxx.co.uk

Thanks in advance for your help

Hi

You don't. You find why those 2 pages are the same. They should not be.

1. Where is the link to /interior-and-graphic-design-agency found?

2. In the SEF URL manager, what is the non-sef URL associated with it? is that the same as the home page?

Best regards

Visually and content wise, they are exactly the same page.

non sef url for  /interior-and-graphic-design-agency
index.php?option=com_gantry5&Itemid=1111&lang=en

The link for this comes from a hidden menu item - which can't be unpublished because it's the default home

non sef URL for home page - I can't find this in the sh404 SEF manager

Hi

The link for this comes from a hidden menu item - which can't be unpublished because it's the default home

Mmm, you cannot have your home page unpublished and expect the site to work normally. The situation of having 2 differents URLs for the same content is a direct consequence of that:

- / is the default home page URL, visitors and robots will just try to load it

- /interior-and-graphic-design-agency is the url associated with your "Home" menu link, the visible one. They are 2 different menu items, they will generate 2 different URLs. We cannot identify this second URL as the homepage because the home page is a very special thing in Joomla, associated with its menu item.

This cannot work as long as the home menu item is hidden.

Thanks for getting back to me - so how can I resolve this? Is this not a textbook case for when to use a canonical URL?

Also, another similar issue - Joomla seems to be publishing some pages by itself e.g:

uncategorised/page-3

Non-SEF url  index.php?option=com_content&Itemid=1125&id=2&lang=en&layout=blog&limit=5&limitstart=10&view=category

Which are some very odd looking pages.

I can't see how to stop these being published - how can I do this? If I can't stop them being published, should I set up re-directs for them?

Thanks in advance for your help

Hi

Is this not a textbook case for when to use a canonical URL?

Yes, if there is no way to fix the actual and very real problem, adding a canonical is the next thing to do:

- click on "Homeinterior-and-graphic-design-agency" in the SEF URL manager

- in the "Canonical" field, enter "/" or "https://yoursite.com"

Also, another similar issue - Joomla seems to be publishing some pages by itself e.g:

This will be for another ticket. When you open it, please make sure to reply to:

What does "publishing" means? where do you see those pages?
