Hi, so in one of my news page the url created double path:
xxxx.tv/news/news, instead of just xxxx.tv/news.
I managed to change the first page to xxxx.tv/blog by making xxxx.tv/news/news as an alias.
however, for the second page of the news page, the url problem persist. For example--> xxxx.tv/news/news/page-2 , xxxx.tv/news/news/page-3, etc.
I have about 92 pages of this, so there's no way I can edit all of them and create an alias for each.

I think this problem occurs because I created a main menu with the same title, and it automatically created double path to prevent duplicate pages? But, I removed one of them, and the page never went back to normal.
Is there anyway I can fix this?

I realized that the url actually shows the menu item alias and the category alias.
I created a new menu item category blog name Valorant > chose the category as Valorant, set parent > esports.
The url shows this: https://www.xxxx.tv/valorant/esports/valorant/
Similar to the other question, How can I make it as https://www.xxxx.tv/esports/valorant/ instead.

Also for every article with Valorant as category, they show the url:
https://www.xxxx.tv/valorant/valorant/spesifikasi-game-valorant
How can i make it: https://www.xxxx.tv/valorant/spesifikasi-game-valorant instead?

If you manually changed /news/news to /blog, that's all you did. /news/news/page-2, /news/news/page-3 are not modified in any way by the change made to /news/news. I suggest you delete that custom URL and delete the alias to avoid confusion.

I realized that the url actually shows the menu item alias and the category alias.
Assuming we are talking about regular Joomla content, ie categories and article - and not content from a 3rd party extension, the menu alias is never used to build URLs (unless you changed some sh404SEF settings to "Use Joomla router or similar")

The default URL structure for an article is:

/top-category-alias/maybe-sub-category-alias/article-alias

For categories links, the default structure is:

/top-category-alias/maybe-sub-category-alias/maybe-another-sub-category-alias/

Is this consistent with the URLs you are seeing?

Yes, the explanation you provided is consistent with what I'm seeing on my urls.
Is there anyway to remove the top-category-alias OR the sub-category-alias so the url looks 'cleaner'.
Or will removing one of those can potentially mess up the whole page in my website?

Hi

Is there anyway to remove the top-category-alias OR the sub-category-alias so the url looks 'cleaner'.
You can do that by going to "Extensions" -> "Joomla":

The selector I outlined on the screenshot above lets you select how categories are inserted in URLs for articles.

This selector lest you change the structure for category links.

Things to consider:

- those settings applies globally, to all the site
- after changing a setting, you need to delete the affected URLs so that new ones can be re-crated with the new settings.

Or will removing one of those can potentially mess up the whole page in my website?

- just be aware of possible collisions if reducing the number of categories in URLs. For instance if you have 2 categories like /news/something and /news/something-else and you tell
sh404SEF to only keep the "Top" category, then both categories will be under the same URL, /news and you'll only ever be able to view one of them.

If I look at this URL, /valorant/valorant/spesifikasi-game-valorant, your message would indicate that you have:

- an article with alias spesifikasi-game-valorant
- in a category called valorant
- which itself is in a category valorant

Is there a specific requirement for that? isn't it possible to work at categories organisation level so that the flow of URLs is more natural?

Is there a specific requirement for that? isn't it possible to work at categories organisation level so that the flow of URLs is more natural?

So my goal was to make valorant as the subcategory of esports. As you can see in my link: valorant/esports/valorant. To do this, I made a category blog with alias valorant AND a category article with alias valorant too. Hence, the url: valorant/valorant/article-name.
I kinda get how to link is built from here. And I'll change the top category to something else, so it doesn't look weird.

But, I'm confused on why the Featured Article Page url is /blog/blog instead of /blog/, since I didn't create any subcategories on that page. Do you mind explaining it to me so I can think of a solution? If I could, I would like not to touch any of the URLs creation settings to prevent any further complications.

Hi

I made a category blog with alias valorant AND a category article with alias valorant too. Hence, the url: valorant/valorant/article-name.
What you do on the menu does not affect the URL, so creating a "category blog" will not change the URL (again, if no settings under the "By component" tab of sh404SEF configuration was changed from default).

But, I'm confused on why the Featured Article Page url is /blog/blog instead of /blog/, since I didn't create any subcategories on that page.
THis is bit confusing, "subcategories on the page', it seems to me that you're still talking about "subcategories" of a menu item, which again has no effect on URLs.

I would need to look at your content to understand what's happening, I can do that if you share superadmin credentials to your website. You can create a temporary account, and delete it afterward, but it must have superuser level.

Thanks and regards

Thanks, would be great if you can help me find out why.
url: xxxx.tv/administrator
user: xxxx
ps: xxxx

Hi

"Featured" view is the exception to the rule it will use the menu item (because Featured content may come from multiple categories so we would not know which one to use to build the URL). However I don't know right now why it doubles it. I'll do a few tests and see if I can reproduce that.

Hi

PS: please do not create custom URLs for now, it makes it impossible to undertstand what's going on.

Hi again,

Or making custom URLs can be the solution but then you have to make that you manually customize all the paginated URLs, ie /blog/-page-2, /blog/page-3, etc

Yes, i thought of that too. But i have 92 pages of those. So I'm hoping if I could find the root of the problem.

Hi

Agreed, but just do not do any custom URLs now is it stops any effort to understand why this is happening on your site.

I have tried to reproduce this on tests site but I can't. The URL to a "all categories" featured view is /menu -item-alias, exactly as it should.

Hi again,

I can see the same happening with the ABout us page, double path. I am starting to think the problem is external to sh404SEF.

I think the only way out is to install akeeba backup and make a copy of the site. I can then install that on a local machine and debug the PHP code to understand what is causing this.

I won't be able to do that tonight though, it will have to be tomorrow.

okay thanks. In the mean time, I won't do any changes.

Hi

Started the process, it's taking a long time as you probably have many images and files. Akeeba also already found some .zip files that it cannot access ( which is good).
I hope the backup file is not too large, otherwise I won't be able to download it. If that happens, I 'll have to try exclude some files and folders from the backup and start again. Can be a lengthy process.

Hi

OK, my very bad, I did not check your settings properly and you happened to have enabled one option that causes exactly that:

Reset that option to No, delete all the wrong URLs, purge Joomla cache and all will be fine.

Anyway, Thank you so much! And sorry for all the trouble.

Hi

Yeah, I was not efficient on that one, lost quite a bit of time, just did not check those settings, barely anyone use them!
