After I updated to sh404SEF 4.20.3.4174 my URL structure has been changed, when I create new articles.
Im using latest version of K2 and Joomla

Before, when creating an article, my url said "www.mysite.dk/categori/item", but now when I create a new article the url is "www.mysite.dk/item"
I havent changed anything in configuration.

Hope you can help me,

Sincerely,
Martin

Hi

After I updated to sh404SEF 4.20.3.4174
Updated from which version?

Before, when creating an article, my url said "www.mysite.dk/categori/item", but now when I create a new article the url is "www.mysite.dk/item"

I havent changed anything in configuration.
Most likely what you updated is K2 itself. sh404SEF never created URLs for K2. Instead it is K2 that has a specific plugin for sh404SEF.

Before K2 version 2.7, the sh404SEF was included in K2. From K2 version 2.7 and more recent, the plugin is a separate download that you can get from the K2 people.

After installing the K2 plugin, you will need to delete the "bad" URLs so that they can be created again normally.

Hi Yannick,

Thanks for your reply.

I cant remember from which version I updated.

I went to JoomlaWorks, and purchased the latest update of K2 sh404SEF, but that didnt help!?
New articles still behave that way.

Sincerely,
Martin

Hi

Things to check:

- plugin is enabled
- you deleted the URLs that were previously created with "item"

Hi

And of course, K2 is set to "Use Default handler" under "By component" tab of sh404SEF configuration.

Yes, plugin is enabled.

Yes, I deleted the URLs, where there where no category.
But weather or not I deleted the URL, new articles shouldnt be affected? It happens if I create a new article/ item with a totally new name.

And K2 is set to "Use default handler"

Sincerely,
Martin

Hi

Then it looks like something you'd have to take to the K2 people. If you provide superadmin credentials I can review your sh404SEF settings.

I'll also need one single article URL that you created since the problem appeared.

Hi

I don't understand: this URL, https://xxxx.dk/hvordan-er-der-i-dit-badekar, works. Which articles have the /item/xxxxx part?

Yes it works, but it was supposed to be "https://xxxx.dk/selvudvikling/hvordan-er-der-i-dit-badekar"

If you look at the other articles in that category, they have the category in the URL: https://xxxx.dk/artikler/selvudvikling

Hi

Ah ok, I though the problem was with having URLs starting with /item, this is what K2 does by default.

As for this issue, I'm not familiar with the K2 plugin but I would think this setting needs to be adjusted to your liking:

I don't know if we misunderstand each other :)

What I get now is: "https://xxxx.dk/hvordan-er-der-i-dit-badekar"

What I want is: "https://xxxx.dk/selvudvikling/hvordan-er-der-i-dit-badekar"

I'm not that skilled, so I need to ask:
Will changing the above mentioned "URL prefix for items" affect existing URLS or only new created items?
Will it change URLS if I change something in an old item and save it again?

Sincerely,
Martin

Hi

Will changing the above mentioned "URL prefix for items" affect existing URLS or only new created items?
Nothing affect existing URLs. Once a URL is in the database, it stays there until you decide to delete it for some reasons.

Note that as the goal is to have new urls the same as the old ones, it won't matter if the old ones are affected as well, as it will just create the same. At least I suspect that because you're talking to me but this is a piece of K2 software and I'm just providing a friendly advice based on what I saw in the plugin settings.

Will it change URLS if I change something in an old item and save it again?
You mean change the article alias or title? no, like I said above, when a URL is in the database, it's there and it won't change, no matter what you do the original article, until you delete that URL. After it's been deleted, Joomla will need it again next time it displays a page where there is a link to that article and so the URL will be re-created, this time with the new settings taken into account.

Hi Martin,

Thanks, same to you! Closing this ticket now, feel free to open a new one as needed. If you do so, please mention this ticket number in the new one.
