 Hi,

Sorry to bother you.

I have an issue with my site loading some articles under the wrong menu item. This happens with some articles but not others so the Category / Article / Menu set up is all good.

It is has only been a handful of articles that behave in this fashion, so I would usually create a new article, copy and paste the contents of the article that was loading on the incorrect menu. Save the new and delete the old. It was a little glitch. However I had one article that no matter how many times I tried that, the new articles would load under the wrong menu item. I have added a screen shot with future information that may make more sense and some questions are contained within the screen shot.

Basically I won't to know if I have my settings wrong or what is causing otherwise finely working article to behave in such a manner. It has something to do with multiple URL's being created but I have not the knowledge to understand beyond that.

Hope you are having a good day.
Max.

**EDIT** I've just found and read the Manage duplicates page in the documentation and watched the video, wish I'd found that before, anyway, how can I stop this from happening or troubleshoot why it is happening. It is painful. :)

Hi

**EDIT** I've just found and read the Manage duplicates page in the documentation and watched the video, wish I'd found that before, anyway, how can I stop this from happening or troubleshoot why it is happening. It is painful. :)
This is it indeed. This is happening because Joomla, your template and your extensions are building multiple URLs to the same content.

99% of times, only the Itemid (ie the menu item) is changing. Without sh404SEF you would not know about the alternatives, only search engines would find them when they crawl the site. But because sh404SEF records all URLs, you start to see them as "Duplicates". sh404SEF will normally group all those duplicates under the same SEF thus solving the SEO problem and making sure only one single URL allows access to a given page.

However, as we have no way to tell which non-SEF URL is the "right" one, sh404SEF keeps the first non-SEF that was sent to it by Joomla as the "main" URL. So if the first non-SEF URL is a wrong one, then this can cause what you experienced.

Avoiding that is highly dependent on how your site is setup and which extension you use. Some page builder preview feature don't include any Itemid in the non-sef URL for instance, that will cause all the "Main" URL to not have any menu item information by default. There are also from front-end modules (3rd party latest articles, most viewied, etc) which can do that.

Best regards
