Dear Yannick,
I'm looking for a free sitemap generator. I I would have installed OsMap but I saw that it doesn't work well
with Sh404sef as it is reported in your forum.
Thus I ask for your if you may suggest a free component to build sitemaps.
I know that there are also outdoor services as:

or I can make a sitemap by Screaming Frog.
Which is the best for Sh404sef?
--------------
In my web site: I used 12 non sef links (as you suggested me) as these links
placed in OROSCOPO DELLA SETTIMANA which is a HTML custom module in home page:
www.xxxx.com/anto49/

Thus I'd like to know if in sitemap there must also be 12 non sef links or 12 sef links or there is no difference.

Thank you very much!!!
Regards
Andrew

Hi

I would have installed OsMap but I saw that it doesn't work well

with Sh404sef as it is reported in your forum.

I think you misread. There's no problem with OSMap operation, never was. The only issue they have (but they contacted me like a couple of days ago so I think they should fix it) is that they display the wrong link to the sitemap in their admin panel. So you just have to use the correct link (see this documentation page) but the sitemap itself is fine - I mean it's exactly as OSMap does it usually.

Which is the best for Sh404sef?

sh404SEF has absolutely no relationship to your sitemap. It does not affect the construction or display of it (except in the case of OSMAP as described above but it's really only a matter of copy/pasting the righ link).

In my web site: I used 12 non sef links (as you suggested me) as these links

placed in OROSCOPO DELLA SETTIMANA which is a HTML custom module in home page:

www.xxxx.com/anto49/

You're not using non-SEF links in that module. You used the non-sef links in the source of that module, the text you wrote in your Joomla admin when you created that custom HTM module.
But the point of using non-sef URLs there was so that Joomla can pick them up and turn them into SEF URLs. If you look at your home page, those links are SEF. The "public" version of those links are only SEF. The non-sef links are purely internal and no one will ever see them.

All sitemap tools will only "view" and include the public version of those links, which is of course the SEF one.

Thus I ask for your if you may suggest a free component to build sitemaps.

I know that there are also outdoor services as:

or I can make a sitemap by Screaming Frog.

The more sensible question are:

- how large is your site?
- do you have pages that search engines cannot find?

A sitemap is intended only for one thing: to tell search engines which are the "good" pages on your site, the ones they should crawl and index in priority over the all others.

If your site is small (say less than 2-3000 pages), you basically don't even need a sitemap because with so few pages, Google or Bing will easily ingest ALL pages. Note that having a sitemap will in no case hurt and you might even use it to select your best 200 or 300 pages that you want search engines to focus on and not waste time on. Again, with smaller sites, there's no real need for that.

Another use for sitemap is if you have pages that you want indexed but they cannot be reached yb crawling your site (there are no links to them anywhere). That can happen, but it's much better making those pages accessible through links on your site so that both users and search engines can find them.

One (good) use for a sitemap is if you just launched your site: you can submit a sitemap and it will likely speed up the indexing process by search engines. Same if you made some large changes to the site, like changing many pages, deleting some, adding some, etc

I tend to favoir online systemt or screaming frog for smaller sites: you run them once and then submit the sitemap. If you make very large changes, you run them again. No need to have another extension on your site.

If you have a larger site, a dynamic sitemap is more suited as it will update your sitemap as you add content. The danger here is that the sitemap extension adds ALL pages to the sitemap. That's not the point, you want to add only the "good" pages, the ones with value (ie no contact us form page, thank you pages, any form, etc).
