We have started getting:

"Internal database #drop command denied to user 'prod_www'@'***********' ' for table '#__sh404sef_hits_404s'

when we "Purge 404 Logs". The strange thing is that after clicking outside of the error window or after few seconds, the 404 log is actually cleared / 404s deleted.

Hi

As you can see in the message (... denied to user...), this is not about sh404SEF itself but rather your database users being deined access to some mysql function (in that case, dropping a table).

I would suggest you talk to your hosting company, they can find out what's been updated in their setup that would cause your db user to have access issues.
