Hello Team,

We have purchased the sh404SEF for URL seo friendly URL and we configured at our Joomla 3.x website and it configured but as we are checking the SEF Urls then its generating many for a single url and now the records in database in near about 686 K (1,177,518 rows) and we thought some setting is missing or incorrect and that's why it is generating the urls in bulk.

Please let us know if any clue or suggestions from your end so that we will check and confirm.

Hi

1 - First, your screenshot shows that you are using an outdated version of sh404SEF. Please update to the current version right away.

2 -
as we are checking the SEF Urls then its generating many for a single url
It is important to understand that sh404SEF does not generate any URL. All those URLs are on your site, whether you have sh404SEF or not. sh404SEF only transforms those URLs from non-SEF to SEF.

The difference is that with sh404SEF, it shows you a list of URLs on your site. With Joomla only, you do not have a list of URLs so you cannot see them.

The other difference of course is that sh404SEF makes sure all duplicates that Joomla generates are not visible by search engines and visitors, and that all content has only one public URL.

we thought some setting is missing or incorrect and that's why it is generating the urls in bulk.
Again, sh404SEF does not generate any URL. As for settings, it depends a lot on which extensions you have on your site and what type of URLs they generate. Extensions like custom search, or Virtuemart can generate very many links on large stores.

Of course, all of this is valid if you are using the default settings. If not, we'd need to know any change you made.

Best regards

Hello Team,

We have updated the the extension and now it is up to date.

Also will check URL but it will be good if you can provide any further details of URL generating in bulk.

Hi

if you can provide any further details of URL generating in bulk.
Like I said before, there is no generation in bulk. Those are just the URLs on your website.

Again, sh404SEF does not generate any URL. As for settings, it depends a lot on which extensions you have on your site and what type of URLs they generate. Extensions like custom search, or Virtuemart can generate very many links on large stores.
Maybe you can start by replying to this: which extension do you use. Joomla articles would not generate that many URLs unless you have many tens of thousands of articles.

Best regards

We have used many extensions but the main extension is Virtuemart and we have many products.

But recently I have checked the entry in database for the registration page and I have got the different 83 entries in "xxxx_sh404sef_urls" table and all urls are taving different Itemid like you can see few of them below and all these are pointing to "edit" page (https://www.domain.com/edit)

index.php?option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=1869&lang=en&layout=edit&view=user
index.php?option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=1504&lang=en&layout=edit&view=user
index.php?option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=1867&lang=en&layout=edit&view=user
index.php?option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=1736&lang=en&layout=edit&view=user
index.php?option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=1560&lang=en&layout=edit&view=user

Let me know if you have any additional advice for us to improve?

Hi

It seems Virtuemart (or Virtuemart overrides in your template) are causing links to be created with various Itemids (menu item id) in URLs. sh404SEF correctly groups all those duplicate non-sef URLs under the same SEF, as explained previously) but all those duplicates generated by your extensions are indeed being stored so that they can be recognized later on.

Did you create/add a module or add templates overrides for the user Virtuemart control panel for instance? I have not seen this happening with standard Virtuemart installation so something is generating those bad URLs with different Itemids on your site.

Best regards

We are using the template which overrides the virtuemart pages and I think this is cause different item id for same page. We will check.

Hi

Yes, it would be a good idea to do that first. I have not seen anything like that before, unless you have also many tens of thousands products in your Virtuemart store as well.

Best regards
