Hi there,
1. Is there a setting where I can automatically redirect send all "expired" - archived events to the main events page -
IE event from the past that had end date - events/event/29-glow-in-the-dark-run-walk
https://www.xxxx.co.za/event/29-glow-in-the-dark-run-walk
I need to automatically redirect all current and future archived events to main calendar page https://www.xxxx.co.za/events

2. Then also what would free site map extension works well with sh404sef? Os map / JL site map ?

Kind regards
Toinette

Hi

1 -
I need to automatically redirect all current and future archived events to main calendar page https://www.xxxx.co.za/events
sh404SEF can do redirects but it does so based on URLs. From what you explain of JEM, there's no difference between URLs of expired events vs non-expired events, so I don't see how sh404SEF can be used for your purpose.

That would sound more like something JEM should do, they are the ones knowing if a given event has expired or not.

On a side note, it's not a good idea to do such redirects from an SEO standpoint, it'd be better to just 404 them, ie disable them. From a user experience standpoint, it might be ok but you would have to display a message saying "This event has expired, we have redirected you to the main calendar for new events". If you don't, you probably have a pretty bad User experience.

2 - sh404SEF does not impose any requirement to sitemap maker, it makes no difference if URLs are built by Joomla or by sh404SEF. Note that OSMap does have a problem but not when bulding the sitemap. The problem is that they provide you with the wrong URL to read the sitemap. They display that the URL where the sitemap can be found is something like /component/com_osmap/view=xml&id=1

This is not correct, the URL should be /index.php?option=com_osmap&view=xml&id=1

Using sh404SEF you can actually create a custom URL for it, for instance /sitemap

But again, to build the actual sitemap content, makes no difference.

Best regards

Thank you for your response & advice

Just another question:
'tags menu"
If I use a menu based on tags IE bed and breakfast, guesthouse ect
sh404sef changed it to:
https://www.xxxx.co.za/accommodation/?filter_tag[0]=2&filter_tag[1]=3
is this correct for SEO?
I think it use to be something like https://www.xxxx.co.za/accommodation/bedbreakfastguesthouse-accommodation

Hi

https://www.xxxx.co.za/accommodation/?filter_tag[0]=2&filter_tag[1]=3

is this correct for SEO?
It would not matter at all. The only thing that really matters about URLs in terms of SEO is that no or little duplicates are created. That's what sh404SEF is for in terms of URLs. All other features of URLs are more geared towards the users.

I think it use to be something like https://www.xxxx.co.za/accommodation/bedbreakfastguesthouse-accommodation
Probably not, at least not with sh404SEF.

You can always create a custom SEF URL for that page but it might be a bit tricky if that URL (/accomodation) has duplicates.

Best regards
