My website is using the latest Joomla installation, Kunena, K2, and JomSocial.

Each one of these has their own individual search functions built into them.

So my problem is, when a user tries to search the Kunena Forums by clicking Kunena's search button, it re-directs to the Joomla site search which leaves my users unable to search the forums.

Any help would be greatly appreciated with this!

Hi

This would indicate that both Joomla and Kunena and other search URLs are all converted to /search (or a similar URL),which is kind of expected (maybe not for Kunena, I will check that).

All the non-sef URLs for each component are probably grouped as duplicates under the search URL. So the fix is to manually customize them to be different. For instance, customize the Kunena non-sef URL to 'forum-search", the JomSocial one to "social-search" etc

Best regards

Ok, so I have 32 duplicates of the "/search" URL, and one of them relates to the Kunena forum.

How do I customize this URL? Do I do it make making an alias for the non-sef URL that shows in the "/Search" duplicates?

So, I tried to do this on my own.

I created an Alias for the kunena duplicate to redirect to "forum/search" and then purged and cleared the cache, but it didn't work. When I clicked the Search button on the Kunena forum, it just went to the Joomla search component on the frontend of the website.

Hi

1 - You do not want to create any alias. Aliases are redirects from one address to another. Please remove all the aliases you created. What you want is customize those URLs so that they are different.

2 -
I created an Alias for the kunena duplicate to redirect to "forum/search" and then purged and cleared the cache,
Basically you should never purge URLs (on a live site). It's like deleting all your articles, although not as bad as URLs can and will be created again automatically. Simply, in the mean time, users or search engines may be faced with 404s when they try to reach a URL that you have deleted from the database.

So I suspect at this point most if not all your URLs should be back and available in the database and you're back to:

Ok, so I have 32 duplicates of the "/search" URL, and one of them relates to the Kunena forum.
The simplest way to customize that one single URL is:

1 - Open the Duplicates list and make that URL the "Main" URL
2 - Click again on the URL, customize it to "forum-search" for instance and save

Now you should have:

- one record for "forum-search" that has no duplicates
- one record for "search" with 31 duplicates left (assuming there was indeed 32 duplicates initially).

You can repeat the process for the K2 search URLs or the JomSocial search URL.

Note that in the unlikely event where you have several Kunena search URLs, you can also just repeat the exact same process:

- open the duplicates for "search"
- locate the next Kunena search URL
- make it the main non-sef URL for "search"
- customize it to "forum-search" and save

That second URL will become a duplicate under "forum-search".

Best regards
