 Hello.

My homepage on my website comes up with "The requested page can't be found. An error has occurred while processing your request".
The page is showing a basic text menu and no image slider, and the header is below the text menu near the error message. All of the other pages on my site are displaying correctly.

Some background:

On Friday 17th May 2019 my website stopped displaying at all. I contacted my host (Haisoft) and they said the problem was related to my Hikashop component. My host confirmed this by disabling the Hikashop component, and the site (minus the Hikashop component) was visible.

I've since contacted Hikashop support and on their recommendation updated Joomla to version 3.9.6, and they've fixed any problem at their end. They then told me their was an error related to sh404SEF (I had, and still have, the debug mode visible on the site) and that with it being an old version of sh404SEF updating the component could fix it too.

I wasn't aware that my subscription for sh404SEF had lapsed (and for so long!) so I've just purchased a new subscription. I've updated sh404SEF and as I said at the beginning, the problem is now that my home page isn't displaying as it should.

Any help that you can give me to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
Charlie Newham

Hi

I have visited this page, https://www.xxxx.co.uk , and a very clear error message is displayed:

The error is happening in the Layer slider component. The actual error is: "[] operator not supported for strings".

This error happens because that extension is using some outdated code, that's not compatible with your current PHP version. So:

On Friday 17th May 2019 my website stopped displaying at all.

My best guess is that on this date your hosting company updated the PHP version that runs on your account and because the Layer Slider component either has a bug or you are not running an up to date version, that component is not compatible with your new, recent PHP version.

Regardless of the series of events, the fact is that the current error is happening due to this component using code that's not compatible with your current pHP. The bug is located at line 102 of the file /components/com_layer_slider/base/includes/slider_markup_init.php

I would suggest you talk to Layer slider about this. I'm not sure where Hikashop got the idea that sh404SEF could even remotely be involved in this as the error message gives a detailed explanation of what's happening.

Best regards

Thank you.
When I unpublish the Layer Slider module, the homepage is displaying.
I'll contact the layer slider support.
Thank you very much for your prompt and helpful response.

Hi

You're welcom! Give them the exact error message and this: "The bug is located at line 102 of the file /components/com_layer_slider/base/includes/slider_markup_init.php", they should be able to fix it quickly.
