The word "table" is showing up in my urls even after I took steps to stop that behaviour.

I have:

set "insert content table name" to no

set "insert content table name" to yes but emptied the "Default table views name" field

purged sef urls of urls with "table" in them and emptied the joomla cache.

Still, each time urls are recreated with "table/" at the beginning of them.

Hi

There are 4 settings involved in this:

Insert content table name
Default table views name

By setting the first one to No and removing the default "table" bit then deleting all URLs, I do get the "table" bit removed as expected.

1 - What are your full and exact sh404SEF and Joomla versions?
2 - What's the URL of the site?
3 - What is one single such URL with table in it and what is the non-sef URL associated with it in the SEF URL manager?

I am using sh404SEF 4.13.2.3783 on Joomla 3.8.5

The site is https://www.xxxx.com[/url]

One URL with "table" in it is:
https://www.xxxx.com/table/firewise-learning-academy-student-tutorials/

That url's non-sef link is:
index.php?option=com_content&Itemid=2931&id=170&lang=en&view=category

Hi

1 -
One URL with "table" in it is:

https://www.xxxx.com/table/firewise-learning-academy-student-tutorials/
Can't see such a URL on your site? which menu item is this? or where do you see the link?

2 - Is this URL marked as "custom" maybe, in the URL manager?

Hi.

That link comes up if you mouse over "support" and then click on "Firewise Learning Academy Student Tutorials"

Hi

I need to review your settings.

Could you please provide us with superadmin credentials to your website. You can create a temporary account, and delete it afterward, but it must have superuser level.

Thanks and regards

Hi

I have not been able to determine why this specific URL is having this behavior. I cannot reproduce that on test sites, the URLs are built as expected.

For now I have simply customized the URL and manually removed the "table" part so the URL is good now.

Going any further to identify the specific configuration or customization on your site would require taking a full akeeba backup of the site and installing a copy on our local machine to be able to debug step by step through the code. We can do that if the manual customization is not satisfactory to you. Please let us know.

Hi,

Thanks for that workaround, but there are other links created with "table" in them when menus appear after people are logged in.

Here is a link to lat nights akeeba backup of the site:

Thanks,

Hi

Can you tell me what happened to this site? The front-end part of sh404SEF is mixed up with the admin side of the component! Here is your site:

Here is what it looks like after an normla install:

Not sure how it can even start working! In addition, some of the settings seem to have been removed, although I'm not sure that happened after I reinstalled a fresh copy.

So here is what to do:

1 - Go to sh404SEF configuratio, under the Advanced tab. Scroll down to the bottom and disable "Preserve configuration"

2 - Go to Joomla installer and uninstall sh404SEF. Be sure it's entirely removed.

3 - Download a fresh new copy and install.

4 - Delete all faulty URLs and visit your site front page to check if all is better now.

Lol, I have no idea what happened to this site. Everything is working just fine on my other sites.

I followed your uninstall and reinstall advice and the problem seems solved. Thanks very much!

BTW, I don't know if you are aware of my Joomla Tutorials YouTube channel or not, but some time ago I demonstrated how I use sh404SEF to find common Wordpress bots that are constantly attacking Joomla sites.

https://youtu.be/HTvcvWCVOIE

I think sh404SEF is great!

Hi Tim,

Thanks for the nice comment and no, I was not aware of your Training channel indeed and that tutorial is very nice. It's something I've wanted to add to sh404SEF for a little while, automatically handling WP bots, just because we have so many of them in our 404 logs as well. I have added back a tracker item on that, thanks for pushing me a little on that ;)

Best regards

Hi Tim,

If you care to give it a try, I just added a simple URL blocker to sh404SEF. It comes with default WordPress bots rules. You can download this test version from this page.

You have to have "Security functions" enabled for this to operate.

You can change the rules and the actions taken in the Security config:

Those requests will no longer be logged as 404 in the 404 manager. If "Log attacks" is enabled in the Security configuration however, they will still be logged to the security log file, in {Joomla_log_folder}/sh404sef/sec/per_month_security_log_file.php

Cheers
