Hi,

We're working with an SEO Company to improve our Google Rankings. Recently they asked about a canonical url on our front page. It displays as <link href="https://www.xxxx.com/site3/" rel="canonical" />. I'm unable to find where this is set, but if I look in the sh404sef_metas table I find this as the canonical value for index.php/&lang=en. This would seem to make sense because index.php would be the root page and our language is set to English.

I'm not sure if we're going to need to change it or not, but I hate to change it directly in the database as I'm sure there must be a page to find these at. I've search all over and cannot seem to find where I can search for a canonical url.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Chuck W.

Hi

1 - This is set so because your site is actually hosted in the /site3/ subdirectory of your hosting account. You seem to have put in place some .htaccess rewriting, but just for the home page. So your home page is https://www.xxxx.com, but all the other links on your site are https://www.xxxx.com/site3/xxxx
I assume your web development agency did that, but that's not a really good thing to do to be honest. Too late to change anyway.

2 - So the canonical is correct, because your site is indeed, from a Joomla standpoint, living at https://www.xxxx.com/site3. You can however force the canonical for the home page by using the "Home page meta" button on one of the sh40SEF admin screens.
