This is my initial experience with this product and I'm experiencing a repeatable 400 error in J! 3 administration while using the sh404sef product.
It seems that after having performed a dozen or so operations, specifically in creating associations between alpha-numeric (joomla) urls and clean, sef urls, the joomla admin pages (except for the 'control panel' page) will 400. Closing the browser window and login ability is temporarily lost.
A brief delay of 15 minutes or more and I am able to continue soon followed by another repeat of 400 scenario; even after having left the then-current browser window open.
This wasn't happening prior to the install of SH404SEF.
Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks

Hi

1 - 400 errors: this is not something coming from sh404SEF, but is a security feature of either:

- an extension on your site (less unlikely)
- a security feature on your hosting company (very, very likely)

I would suggest first you talk them and see what they say.

Not really related to your actual problem, but why are you entering URLs manually?

Hello,

Answer to #2
I am using the 404 urls section and then clicking the 'redirect to a sef url' button. Is there a better way?

Also, can you tell me where to find / how to modify the sef404, 404 not found page (Bad Karma....).
When I tried to change to my custom 404, I get a different sh404 failure page

Well, unless you actually want to fix some 404s, there is nothing to do. You just set sh404SEF "Enable URL optimization" to yes, visit your home page, and URLs are created on the fly, when they are needed by Joomla for display.

Also, can you tell me where to find / how to modify the sef404, 404 not found page (Bad Karma....).
This is done in the configuration, on the Error page tab.

When I tried to change to my custom 404,
What do you mean by that, what do you do exactly?

On the error page configuration choices, the 404 error handling drop down
When I change to using the joomla 404 page, and then choose a non existent page, I get

sh404SEF: 404 requests manager

How can I track down a 404 url like this one? I'm not even sure how the url got created in the first place (google or someone clicking in a given order?)
american/republic-grille/54-2015/488-december
https://xxxx.com/american-restaurants/republic-grille
https://xxxx.com/restaurant-inspection-reports/2016/december/51-2012/312-march
I'd like to have a redirect to the right page but I don't know what the intended page is/was March 2012 or December 2016?
Can I infer anything from the order?

This is the december 2016 page https://xxxx.com/mcehs-2016-restaurant-inspections/december

I've been reading through the documentation (nice job on it).
I have previously created a number of redirects in the Joomla redirect (/index.php?option=com_redirect)
Should they be disabled? I presume yes but have not found an answer in the documentation (yet).

When you select the Joomla error page, then you get the Joomla error page, which is, by definition, not from sh404SEF, so Im' not sure what to say about it. I can tell you that this message is not part of sh404SEF, we do not have that phrase in our code. I suspect your template (which is used to render the Joomla error page) probably has a small bug in it.

I have previously created a number of redirects in the Joomla redirect (/index.php?option=com_redirect)

That doesn't matter. We will read them in case of 404, to check if you previously set up a redirect, but the Joomla redirect feature is disabled when sh404SEF is used.

How can I track down a 404 url like this one?
What do you mean by track down? find where it comes from? if so, the first thing to look at is if they are marked as "internal" in the sh404SEF listing. If marked "internal", then they come from somewhere on your site, and you shoulr try find it. If not marked as "internal", then it comes from another site, or some random robot poking requests at your site (robots can represent a fairly significant part of your 404s, often the largest part). And there's basically nothing to do about it. Just delete them.

There is not redirect to do here. As mentioned above, if those are coming from your site, then it's a bad source link, probably a relative one (ie does not start with / or http://). This is a mistake and it should be fixed.

Redirects are only useful when you change an article URL. In the general case, there is no redirection to do for 404s, only when you specifically change something on the site.
