 Hi there,
I have installed the sh404SEH component to my Joomla! site, and followed all the install instructions.
Now all my web pages display the standard "page not found". Can you give me a little direction as to my next step
to adjust the URL's so the pages can be found again.
It's to do with my redirecting strategy and I'm not quite getting what to do.

Should I be contacting the hosting provider to alter the .htaccess file? Or something more obvious I've missed.

My site is www.xxxx.com

Thanks very much

Gavin D.

Hi

Yes, it seems your server is not configured for URL rewriting.

All this is not related to sh404SEF, you would have the same problem with Joomla.

You do need to have your server configured for URL rewriting, which can probably be done by your hosting company. Please note that you will not have a .htaccess file, as this appears to be a Microsoft server, not Apache (.htaccess are for apache web server).

I believe Joomla comes with a web.config sample file suitable for Microsoft IIS servers, but I have no knowledge of that. Your hosting company is your best bet.

An alternative is to NOT use URL rewriting. As per sh404SEF documentation on getting started, on this page:

Enabling SEF URLs involves:

- setting up your web server

- activating SEF URLs in Joomla! configuration

- selecting whether your server uses URL rewriting

In your case, you have enabled URL rewriting without setting up your web server first.
So the alternative is simply to avoid enabling URL rewriting in Joomla Global configuration, as your server does not allow this.

It means you will have URLs with /index.php/ in them, but it should still work on your server. If ti doesn't (as this is a Microsoft server, I don't know), you will have to go through the server configuration with your hosting company, and I recommend that anyway.

Thank you very much for the advice. I should have checked more thoroughly to start with.
All good now.

Hi

Glad to hear that! Closing this ticket now, feel free to open a new one as needed. If you do so, please mention this ticket number in the new one.

If you created any superadmin account for us, be sure to delete or block it now to avoid unnecessary risk in the future.
