Hello just for information i don't know if you are in question, after update to joomla 3.6.4 i have an json error on smart search indexer with somthing like json error syntax !
After log time to search i found an error syntax in article you create for 404 error it was this

{"menu_image":"-1","show_title":"0","show_section":"0","show_category":"0","show_vote":"0","show_author":"0","show_create_date":"0","show_modify_date":"0","show_pdf_icon":"0","show_print_icon":"0","show_email_icon":"0","pageclass_sfx":""

i solve this ny adding a } at the end :

{"menu_image":"-1","show_title":"0","show_section":"0","show_category":"0","show_vote":"0","show_author":"0","show_create_date":"0","show_modify_date":"0","show_pdf_icon":"0","show_print_icon":"0","show_email_icon":"0","pageclass_sfx":""}

Hi

Thanks for that report. Those messages appear because Joomla 3.6.4 has enforced stricter validation on json read from params, and so many people are seing this with various extensions, and even without extension, just on Joomla articles settings and similar.
I haven't experienced this on any of our sites, or didn't have any other report actually., but I don't use the Smart seach anywhere, and I don't think it's widely used, so this might explain that.

I have searched for the root of this, and found it, so this will be fixed in next version. Thanks again for the detailed report!

Actually, to be more clear, we do not use any longer this inserted article to display the 404 error, and it's been so for a long time. Recent versions (like for the last 2 years) actually unpublish this article upon installation. But I think the smart search indexer still reads it.

Another quick fix would be to delete this article entirely.
