General configuration
The General configuration page has only a few settings where you can alter 4Command behavior and access.
Keyboard access
The main way to open 4Command is through its keyboard shortcut, which opens the 4Command dialog.
Enable keyboard shortcuts
You can disable opening the 4Command dialog with a keyboard shortcut. If you do that, then the only way to access that dialog is to click the administration module that 4Command injects in the Joomla status bar.
Shortcut to open dialog
By default, the 4Command dialog opens up when you press Ctrl + Alt + X
on all machines except on MacOs systems where you should use control + command + X
instead.
This shortcut can be modified by:
- clicking in the input field
- pressing the key combination you prefer
The selected key combination is displayed immediately next to the input field.
The new keyboard shortcut is not active immediately, reload the current page, or navigate to another one to make it active.
Some key combinations are not allowed (4Command will tell you so) as they conflict with common keyboard shortcuts. For instance, ctrl+S
/cmd+S
is not available as it's the universal standard for saving content.
Enable keyboard access for additional actions
4Command provides you with additional actions on top of "just" letting you access quickly all built-in Joomla pages.
These actions can be triggered from 4Command dialog and some of them also have pre-defined keyboard shortcuts.
In case of conflict with other extensions, your browser or your computer, you can disable each group of shortcuts separately here.
Info
The exact list of available shortcuts depends a bit on your Joomla version and the computer you are using. The most up-to-date list is always displayed on the 4Command component dashboard, as well as in the 4Command dialog, by clicking on the small keyboard icon.
Enable Joomla toolbars shortcuts
4Command also enables keyboard shortcuts to quickly use buttons in Joomla standard toolbars, such as Save
or Save and copy
In case of conflict with other extensions, your browser or your computer, you can disable each group of shortcuts separately here.

User experience
4Command tries to improve the administrator user experience with small touches. You can disable them if they are not an improvement for your particular use case.
Focus search field on list pages
On list pages such as the Joomla Article, Categories, Users or Contacts manager, 4Command will automatically focus the Joomla Search
field so that you can directly type in some text in case you are looking for a particular item in that list.
This feature is enabled by default, you can disable it here.
